Nott happy with the sound system even after installing sub. Taken the door card out. Found all speakers are really average quality, labelled hyundai. Time to change them.

Made spacers as above. 25mm / 1 inch thick with mdfs and foam sheets cutout top and bottom. Took me half a day. Now all ready to go. IMG_20181117_234806.webpIt will take any 6.5 inch with mounting depth of up to 7cm at the front door. The back door has no window in the way so any depth. I use these steg speakers st650 as these speakers are excellent in playing full range without crossover. I suspect those bass channels are running full range from the HK amp. Correction : those output are low passed, not full range.

Audio wizardry! Spoken by a member of the ignorant, unwashed masses. ;) Looks impressive.

I can't understand why a subwoofer box is desirable. Loss of space, extra wiring and hardware, etc. And my bass is terrific with the floor mounted subs. Perhaps it "helps" to have 66 year-old hearing. The stock speakers sound fine to me.

"Average" quality will do; I'm an average guy in all respects involving sensory awareness (and from here on out, it just gets worse). I had to have the surround sound HK system over the nine speaker factory stereo. So I am not entirely bereft of sensitivity and discretion. But I am glad that I'm not bugged by such discretionary experience as you are "afflicted" with! ;)

Cool project ! Do you happen to have a sketch of the adapters ? I could model them in CAD and share it for 3D printing.

That would be really easy. The top ring is 170mm diameter. Inner diameter varies depend on speakers. The bottom plate could be a any shape. Screw holes is 130mm apart. 5.5mm hole. I file the side of the ring down to accommodate the head of the bolt that's used to screw the plate down. It's probably cheaper just to buy the adaptor AERPRO SPEAKER SPACER FOR HYUNDAI IX35 ELANTRA KIA OPTIMA CERATO CARNIVAL SOUL 9317114921697 | eBay
I use mdf, sounds better.

It turned up that I probably don't have to change the woofer after all as its crossed - over pretty low, hardly any vocal come through at all. Most coming from the centre speaker. I discovered in shock that L front woofer is wired out of phase. I decided the reverse the 3 other speakers as my phase check app on my phone says that the other 3 woofers are wired in reverse phase. After I corrected all that it makes a huge improvement. Everything just sounded better. I also discovered that both the tweeter and midrange are covered by a felt-like material which I removed the which I will post in another thread Stinger Harman Kardon speakers simple mod to improve sound

You are right is probably not required. Just the need for upgrade and have some fun. I built a custum fibreglass subwoofer box which hardly taken out any usable space. Pls refer to last post for sound improvement idease.4fbdc865-26bb-443c-bcca-81d7b72fd570.webp

Stage 2.. Install amp for the door woofers. IMG_20181123_142620.webp Managed to fit a little focal 4/800 at the same spot. Has to be less than 15cm tall to fit in there with wires running the sides

Also managed to fit Audiocontrol lc6 behind the fuse tray. I use roof silicon to glue a thin 3mm mdf onto the car frame and velcro lc6 onto the board.

Well I hope after all your effort & work on this you get the sound you are after. As for me I’m an old bloke now & this stock system rocks for me as it’s better than anything I’ve owned before, the sound to these old ears is amazing.

The extra amp fixed the soggy mid bass. I wished I could fit a JL or a good class AB amp next to battery. It would have been cheaper and sounded better and more punchy.

There is a very annoying peak at 8000hz.

Still have to figure up if the midrange or the tweeter that's causing the problem...

LOL! You are in the grip of madness. I completely understand the feeling, just not the focus of your "quest". :P
