They are only out of their mind if no one pays it. Can't hurt them to stick it on there for a month or so and see what happens. I wouldn't be surprised is some fanboy pays the extra just to get it now..

Even with the recent disappointments we've had regarding some of the equipment cuts, I still really want this car. If the test drive next month is as good as I hope, I'm sold. That being said, I can do just fine in my current vehicle for a while, and won't suffer a markup like that. I think the key is being willing to walk away.

i agree i'm still onboard as well. i can do without the niceties and i while i'm not in love with the fact that i could have had a much better deal if i lived in canada, i don't see a better deal where i am right now. and that's what counts to me. now i will not pay $5000 over invoice, that's for sure. but i'm still into the car and it's #1 on my short list.

I thought seeing 5000 over invoice was bad but Kia of Irvine has a GT2 with a 6000 dollar markup along with 7000 more an additional BS fees. They even list a "complete options" fee of 1500. The sticker price of the vehicle was 62,595 USD. Almost 13000 over MSRP. I called around to other Southern California Kia dealers and ALL of them said they marked up the price of the GT2 since it's a new vehicle and was in high demand.

Very disappointing because I won't pay anything over MSRP so I most likely will have to wait months before these upcharges are gone.

Are you spending from $5,000 to $13,000 over MSRP for a Kia? I mean it's not like they are making 13 of them then shutting down the factory, they want to sell as many as possible, the more that land the less they will be looking to charge the more the price will come down, patience is a virtue.

It suddenly makes financial sense to buy cheap interim tires and replace the fluid sensor on the ancient Pontiac and wait this insanity out. Or jump ship and wait for the Buick--not at all what I want to do.

It's probably just a matter of being in the right place at the right time for now. Or, not being in the wrong place at the wrong time. I'm sure not ALL Kia dealerships are going to make up the Stinger like this. Some are smart and just want to sell cars so they can perform scheduled maintenance and service - which is where they earn their income...

Hope so--but this a.m. I've tried to check this out with reps I talked to at dealers near me, and they aren't returning my messages. I expect this kind of hoity-toity behavior from Irvine, but if Riverside is tacking on a surcharge, I'm guessing pretty much any dealer in SoCal who is getting GT2s is going to follow suit, given their herd mentality. Unfortunately, small crisis to deal with at home, so I can't go to a dealer today as I'd planned. Dang, and I got my loan approved yesterday in anticipation.

How did registration work since you bought it in a different state and you drove it back to where you lived. Did you have to pay the state registration fee twice?

Only reason I'm asking is I'm moving soon and wondering where I should buy it. Or if you don't have to register it in the state you bought it in.

This was 20 years ago so if I remember correctly I only had to register it in New York. I was able to travel back home with some type of transporter plate. If I remember correctly...

No, you only pay registration and sales tax in the state you actually live.
However if you buy it and register it and then move 2 months later, yes you have to re-register it in the new state. You could probably drive it until the registration expires but don't get caught. Most states have laws you have to register it within 60 days after moving.

Thanks for the info guys, yeah I'll be moving just about 2 weeks later :/ and in Texas I have to pay the full car tax even though it's a lease.

But I was reading this so maybe I can get a refund. I'll have to do some more research.
