Anyone had a windshield replaced? Wouldn't you know it - had an 8-10" crack today. Might have been from a rock that hit a couple of days ago, and then it got "cold" (~40F overnight). Any chance Kia corporate will warranty this? Dealer says no.

Anything to watch out for, in terms of unexpected issues? I have a local guy who's done a couple of windshields for me that I'm generally happy with - should I give them a call? Or are new windshields so complex that they've become "dealer only" items? Like recalibrating sensors or something? I have a gt1...20191029_081955.webp

Not sure if it's changed but generally your insurance has "preferred" windshield replacement services that can replace them. Not sure if there's anything special with them nowadays but my old '15 Optima had to have 3 windshields replaced in the span of 3 years free of charge because it's covered under my insurance; as long as it's not self-inflicted.

KIA will not cover the windshield under warranty, hopefully you have glass insurance - here it's a extra cost add-on due to the large number of claims caused by road gravel applied over the winter. Had mine replaced once already, a few weeks into ownership.

If you have the lane guidance/assist feature, the KIA procedure says it needs to be re-calibrated after glass replacement.

Did you have the glass replaced by the dealer? Did you have to pay for re-calibration?

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...

I had the glass replaced by a glass shop, who did not know about the recalibration. I found out about that afterwards after doing some research, but as my lane keep assist was working perfectly I didn't pursue it any further, even though I have glass insurance. The next time I will.

AFAIK, most glass shops do not have the equipment to do recalibration - they would have to send it to the dealer for that. I'm pretty sure that would be covered under the glass policy if you have that in your insurance, as it's part of the replacement process.

If you don't have windshield coverage in your policy and would be paying out of pocket, you might want to look at possible repair - an 8 to 10 inch crack is about the maximum they'll consider filling/repairing around here, which is considerably cheaper than replacing the glass.

We raised deductibles a bit recently. I think I paid ~$200 to replace the windshield once on my '05 Legacy GT in 15 years, plus 1 or 2 chip repairs. I know it's random, but dang this is so soon after buying..

I just had mine replaced last month. Vendor had to order the glass through Kia which took about two weeks. I thought the sensors would have to be recalibrated but no warnings came up after the replacement and all ADAS seems to be functioning as normal.

Interestingly, KIA's service procedures (at least for MY2018) don't mention anything about re-calibrating LKA in the section on windshield glass replacement. However, they do have this note in the section on LKA repair:
