Just wondering who's done their own paint correction and ceramic coating on the stinger?

I am considering doing a 1 step polish and then a CQuartz UK 3.0 coating.

Hows getting in all the nooks and crannies with having to apply it and then buff it off - I see it being difficult to do on the logos/writing, etc.

Any input?

I have. Used Maguiars ultimate polish and a 6" polisher from the home depot. does a pretty good job of removing the swirls. Ceramic coat was avalonking armor shield IX. Buffing the ceramic coat off is annoying because it seems like you're just pushing it around. It's weird but you'll see what I mean. eventually it'll disappear, but it takes some work. But overall, a pretty easy job. just takes time and elbow grease

I used 6-8 mf towels to do mine. Two colors help so you don't forget which towel you're using. One towel for initial wipe, then finish off with second towel. Throw towels away after you finish. Wear gloves so oils from your hands don't get on towels.

I actually just did this 2 weekends ago. My hood, roof, and rear decklid had some moderate swirling from the dealership putting it through an automated car wash. I did a two step correction on those locations and one step on the rest. I found the clearcoat easy to work with.

The cquartz was pretty easy to work with but i did find it flashed VERY fast on a 90 degree day in my garage. Didn't have any trouble around the badges or scripts although i did those areas first as to have my full energy for the small details. Would recommend a bottle of Reload to top of the coating with.

Thrilled with how it came out.

This looks great all! I don't have that much swirling, so I think the single stage correction should work. And that's good to know, I think it's supposed to be 20 next week, so it shouldn't flash too quickly.

I ended up doing it all last week! Here are the results:

Ended up doing the following:
  1. Wash: 2 bucket method with Meguiars Gold Class shampoo.
  2. Decon with Sonax Fallout Remover.
  3. Clay with the Mothers Speed Clay and leftover soap from the wash as lube.
  4. Rinse.
  5. Polish with Sonax Perfect Finish and Simoniz finishing pad (sorry only got the 1 pic)
  6. 2 Coats of CQuartz UK 3.0, waiting 24h between coats (it took me 4h/coat, so it was 1 a day)
  7. 1 Coat Carpro GLISS 2.

Seriously need to get this done or do it myself when I have the time. Came out really well, Great job! Looks like a mirror on the garage pics, if u don’t mind what was the total cost of diy including the polisher as I would need to buy one as well

Nice mirror finish on the garage pics. Well done.

Costs (in CAD) were:
225 for the CQuartz, Gliss, Eraser and Microfibres
170 for the Polisher, Plus 12 Each pad (3 pads)
32 for the Sonax
about 170 on all the detailing supplies (2 buckets, grit guards, mitts, microfibre towels, soap, fallout remover and clay).
So about 633 total - half the price of a professional job. Means I cost myself 30$/hr for 20hrs.

Nice results, congrats, should be proud. I am contemplating between CQ and Avalon. Also trying to decide on polish. I don't believe I will need a two step. I am between Hyper Polish and Perfect Finish. I may try and see what results I get with ultimate polish or 205 as I have those already. Also have the turtle wax hybrid ceramic black polish (Aurora Black Stinger). Turtle wax customer service says I can ceramic coat after using it. Other option is Turtle Wax Ice compound that doesn't satin black trim, but with black I may have to polish after.

Thanks, I liked doing it. - I went with the CQuartz just for ease of use - the Qtechniq CSL would also be a good choice.

If you don't need a two step, I would go with the Sonax, it will cut a little, then break down to a finishing polish, just use a finishing pad and you'll get those result. I wouldn't use the TW Ceramic polish, you're going to be doing an IPA wipedown to get rid of the oils before coating, and that will possibly remove some of that ceramic - and the ceramic in the polish may also trap some of those polishing oils/lubricants.

If you're referring to Turtle Wax Ice Seal and Shine, it's a sealant and not a ceramic coating, will only last 3-6 months or so. Same with the Hybrid Ceramic stuff they offer. - I would go with a dedicated ceramic coating.
