Who's buying a Stinger and what is it replacing?

I realize we all need test drives before actually committing. But for those who are pretty sure they're going to fall in love with the Stinger... Speak up! And let us know what it is replacing. I currently drive a 2007 Infiniti G35 Coupe. I have a few bolt on modifications and the car is pretty quick. It's tuned to about 370 horsepower at the crank.

I was originally considering a Chevy SS. I love that car but I don't love the fact that it's gone after this year. I prefer something that's going to live on for awhile. So what about you? I'd like to know what other people in my boat have on their mind.

What I've seen so far of the Stinger is pretty appealing. I'm pretty interested/concerned with the comfort and stereo quality and pretty much any other things that might differentiate it from the related G70. I've got a 2014 Audi A6 and while it's a decent car, there's certainly some things I'd like to see changed or improved.

Hi all. I'm almost a definite buyer. Set on the GT in red, barring some unforeseen failing upon the test drive. Not a replacement, it would be an extra vehicle for us (for play/performance/luxury/greed/look at me/I just want one/getaway car/etc/etc). Lucky enough to finally be in a position to do that I suppose, the seemingly low price for such a vehicle helps too. We'd been looking at a performance/luxury car in a future purchase.  Looking at the last model Holden SSVs, or a higher spec used BMW 3 series, even considered a Porche Macan or Jaguar F-Pace as dual duty vehicles, but we'd be stretching for those. The boss (wife) does not want me to get another motorcycle either and it would not be a suitable replacement for my work pickup (obvious reasons) or the family suv (typical day to day duties), well not fully anyway, so we'll just keep it then (2009 x5). This has changed the game for us, like having the cake and eating it too, so to speak. Can't wait for it to arrive in showrooms to get serious about it.

I'm very interested and hope to get one - it will be replacing a very old VW Passat.  Unless the Genesis g70 brings anything else to the table - it will be a Stinger for me.

I drive a 2006 Infiniti G35 Sedan. Mine is mostly stock except for some cosmetic modifications. I never really felt the need for more speed but I can't say I wouldn't be happy with something a little faster. The Chevy SS is a pretty awesome sleeper. I'd love to have one of those.

Believe it or not it's actually the Genesis G80 that's the related car. The Stinger GT is kinda big. I'm reading that your Audi A6 is a pretty good size comparison. What do you think the Stinger will have better than your A6? The Audi is quite nice.

Hi! Welcome to the club! Well! It certainly sounds like you're in a great position to buy a "toy" with all those high end cars you mentioned. Where are you located? I see you mentioned Holden. Aren't they in Australia? I'm not sure.

Those "older" X5s are really nice. They feel more like a 5-Series than the new ones which became softer. It's amazing to me that people are seriously looking at this Kia who mentioned BMW, Porsche and Jaguar on their same short list.

I know so many people think the Kia Stinger is the new Genesis G70 but that car is actually going to be smaller. The Stinger is more like the Genesis G80. What year is your Passat? I had a couple through the years. I had a B5 and a B5.5. Almost the same car. Both were V6s. I was always jealous of the W8. I test drove one and was very impressed.

Yes, I hope to get a Stinger as well. It would be replacing my old Infiniti G35.

I'd also like to know what you don't like about the A6. Kia had better put a nice audio system in this car. I want to be done with doing aftermarket stereo updates.

That's awesome! Yeah, you're looking at probably half the price compared to something similar from one of the top tier luxury brands like Porsche or Jaguar. Those little SUVs are pretty nice. The Macan always catches my eye. I've only seen a couple of F-Paces but they're pretty unique looking. I just saw that new Bentley SUV this morning. Sick...

The Genesis G70 is going to be a ways off. I'm pretty sure. I thought they were doing a couple of SUVs first before the G70. It's all about the crossover these days.

Right now I drive a 2011 Kia Optima. My lease is up this year and if the Stinger GT is available in time for my lease turn in I will buy one. I'm dying to know when it'll be available for purchase or lease.

I just read that this car is on the same "platform" as the Kia K900. That's a very big car.

That's probably a bit of a generalization. I'm guessing they would say that the Genesis G70/G80/G90 are all the same "platform", despite being different sizes. The Stinger will most likely be a sibling of the G70.

I did some reading about platform sharing and I guess they just shorten or lengthen the platform for different vehicles. It seems to make financial sense to do so. Wasn't GM criticized for doing this sort of thing years ago and now BMW does it more and more?

GM may have been criticized for something like it, though it was probably for going well beyond just sharing a platform and more along the lines of "here's 5 different cars that are essentially all the same and they're all competing with each other". And yes, they're taking what is basically the same frame/unibody construction and just adjusting dimensions as needed for different models, for the sake of saving manufacturing and engineering costs.

I remember those days vividly. Basically all that was different would be the front and rear fascia and badges. True badge engineering. In some cases Cadillac might have a unique engine. Platform sharing is different and I have no issue with it. I know some people are ultra concerned about which platform a car is using - but how many people care about the metal a car rides on?

I can't say I remember those days "vividly" but I do remember seeing various cars on the road that looked very similar with very subtle differences. I don't think much about a car's frame when I'm deciding what to buy next. LOL

Hello all, this is my first post and would be my first Kia. I currently drive a 2011 BMW 550i M sport (which replaced a C6 Corvette due to a growing family). It has been a great car but a bit on the large side for my tastes/needs. Meanwhile the 440i gran coupe doesn't quite have the sporty appeal of the Stinger. That being said I am about 70% sure the Stinger will be my next car. Most of my friends/family are quite surprised considering my previous vehicles. But there is just no denying the Stinger styling. Obviously, the performance of the Stinger GT will need to be up to par and will be a determining factor. In the meantime, I hope Kia is listening, but there are a couple of things I would change to put the Stinger at about 85% for me. First of all, it would be nice if Kia could push the horsepower up to around 400 to give it a more significant advantage over competitors. I do however think this is a longshot in that Kia is likely saving something for an even higher performance version of this car in the future. Second, I would love to see an Idrive style rotary control on the console. After driving BMWs and Mercedes, I am convinced that this is the best and safest way to control infotainment functions. The touchscreen requires your eyes to be off the road for too long to find your desired functions. I actually swore I would never buy another car without a rotary style control. Also, based on the pics, the Stinger screen is pretty high up on the dash, similar to BMW and Mercedes. In my opinion, it would be a bit inconvenient entering nav addresses and other functions with a touch screen in that position.

welcome! you're right the stinger is a really sexy car. the styling is what got me. since i see you're into tuning, i'm sure you'll find a good, safe tune that'll push horsepower to exactly where you want it. as for idrive, i never understood what people didn't like about it. i love it.

I love idrive too, it just works. Although our bmw has no touch screen, so it is sort of use-by-default. I will add that touch screen works just as well, even if you have the knob too (this was in our last mazda 6 sedan). I have not experienced kia system controls but expect it to be on par with other current generation systems. I imagine it has select buttons, on both steering wheel and dash to get you where you need to be most times (i.e. phone, music, nav) while driving. Rotary knob or not, this will not be a determining factor in my stinger purchase.
