What all tech stuff do you turn off before going to car wash?

I know there is a thread on brushless vs brush car wash vs hand wash, etc.

But, let's say I go through a car wash, what all do I need to turn off?

I am assuming --

Front Collision sensor in the menu
The lane departure stuff in the menu
The proxiimity button by the arm rest
The blind spot switch by the steering wheel

Anything else? is the above too much?

A car wash as in those automatic tunnel ones?

Though I don't recommend those, I think not everyone is willing to pay for a hand wash.

Don't you have to turn the engine off during a wash?

At least turn the rain sensing wipers off if your car will be running.

The car is in neutral, and it isn't moving, save for the wash rack. Nothing is really active (rain sensing wipers not included). Nothing to worry about - your airbags won't deploy! ; )

Yes, I think turning off rain sensing wipers would be a good idea...

years ago , my first sales job provided me with a company car which had to be kept clean . My sales manager was a real stickler , so after week one I went to my local drive through wash with the big spinning brushes and heavy duty rinse etc . As I sat in the car while the guys were drying it off one of the guys knocked on my window and handed me a big chunk of chrome molding that had been ripped off in the wash process................,I've never taken a car through one of those types of carwashes since ...............be careful !

As I've stated above, I haven't been in a commercial car wash, not even a "do-it-yourself" spray wash in over 30 years. My 13 year old GTO looks like new.

I made the mistake of going thru a "touchless" car wash this past Saturday. Proceeded to spend the rest of the day using a polishing compound to get out pressurized water lines from the right quarter panel. Was so angry I forgot to take pics and post about it in the forum. Needless to say, I will no longer need to be worrying about which sensors to turn off as I will be hand washing Sally from here on out...

Judicious use of clay bar should take care of it, followed by a good wax.

I have a Subaru Legacy with eyesight and never shut anything off going through the car wash. Never had a problem.

Wow really. I thought I had read I the manual about shutting things down so the system wouldn't engage breaks and stuff. But maybe I misread. You would think that being in neutral they would not engage eyesight.

............no disrespect . clay bars remove "surface" contaminents " ie stuff stuck to the paint finish , polishing is what will help Rufus

I used Meguiar's scratch remover 2.0 then followed up with their spray wax. Took a bit of elbow grease, but it came out fine though I sure learned my lesson...

a good hand job is always the best ................. washing cars I mean !! .............

The other thing to remember for a hand wash is to put the wipers into the vertical position, so some klutz doesn’t do damage. It’s all in the manual, but in short hold the wiper stalk up after shutdown

You mentioned the touchless car wash left pressurized water lines, do you mean the water drips down the paintwork , and left a dried water line ?

Are water spots not calcium deposits? Anything that is on top of the clear coat is a surface contaminant. A clay bar is essentially the same as a polish which also contains micro-abrasives. If you use a clay bar with a good lubricant, you won't hurt anything. I would trust myself with a clay bar before a polishing compound. But do what works with minimal effort and damage to surrounding areas.

I completely agree but I believe he had damage caused by high pressure water . ie it pitted or scratched the paint ..........he got it fixed , and I'm a huge fan of clay bars
