Warning: 3M emblem adhesive caused paint damage

Wasn’t sure if should post in the detailing section if so can it please be moved by a mod.

Anyway, I went to reinstall my GT badge to the left side of the hatch after installing the larger Stinger script. I figured it be easier and would attach better using the 3M emblem adhesive that’s in the tube rather than using the the 3M tape and having to cut it to shape.

Well I screwed myself on that one. Firstly, when I went to set it on the, the squeeze out was horrible, but figured I can just get it off after. Well while I was holding it down it wasn’t wanting to stick down and kept lifting an edge due to the hatch’s curve. So I pulled it off and lo and behold it had started eating through the ceramic coating down into the base coat. Now I don’t know if it was a reaction with the ceramic coat and had it not been coated it would of been fine on the clear. But I figured I would give people a fair warning at least.

I attached pictures of the damage and what I was using. Now I purchased the 3M tape and will be attaching it that way and should cover up the mess up luckily but could image if I had messed up on the placement and wouldn’t of been able to cover it up.

Yep, good I tried this one rather than testing out the smaller stinger badge somewhere on the front bumper. Probably won’t mess with putting that on for now.

Well I put on the the GT badge on this morning and covered up the mess up nicely. I feel like something may be crooked or not spaced right, but I think I've just been looking at it too much lol.

Stop staring, It looks great. But I think that I would have to send 3M a nice little letter (not expecting much). Did you pull it off while it was still wet? If it had dried then it should have been "sawed" off with dental floss. JMO

either your GT badge is on the wrong side or my GT badge is on the wrong side. Did yours come with the GT on the driver side?

Yeah I’m happy with it now. But yeah I should maybe they could say why went wrong? Anyway it was tacky, because I held it down for a a minute but the when I let go one edge pulled up because of the curve and it was just getting too messy and ugly with the half dried glue.

No yours is correct. I moved mine from the passenger to the driver side after removing the smaller stinger script originally on the driver side. Just moved it over to make it look a bit more even.
