I've never had a mechanical issue with my 2018 Stinger GT2 RWD until this past weekend. I drove about 1,100 miles round trip and it was brutal. It would just start vibrating/shaking any time I would accelerate above 65-70 mph, and it would get progressively worse at higher speeds like 80-85 mph. I was afraid I wasn't going to make it home and drove most of the way at about 65 mph. It still vibrates/shakes at that speed but not nearly as bad. Has anyone experienced this before? Any ideas on what it is? The steering wheel does not shimmy or vibrate. Thinking it is either driveshaft or rear tires or the halfshafts. Haven't had a chance to assess it.

Check for a broken belt on one of your tires. if its on the inside of the tire it would be hard to see without taking it off. If it doesnt effect your steering wheel I would guess a rear tire for sure. A broken belt puts the tire out of balance much more than you would assume.

100% tires.

tires, or wheels. make sure your lugs are all secure. if you use spacers try checking those as well. if your tires are worn it is almost certainly related to that. time to buy new and see if that corrects it.

Experienced hum/vibration on an old camaro due to drive shaft imbalance - mainly at speeds over 60. Around 85 it got quiet.

Replaced the steel driveshaft with an aluminum one. Didn't fix the problem entirely, but moved the start to about 80mph.

I checked the rear tires yesterday and I was shocked at what I saw. From midway in, both tires were jacked. I think I only had about 25,000 miles on them. Terrible. What’s worse is that I had the oil changed at a Kia dealership recently and they told me my front tires were good on tread and the rears were marginal. I doubt they got this bad since then. When I look at them from the side they look okay. Kinda scary. I’ve never had tires wear like that before. Just thanking God I didn’t have a blowout during my trip.

About once a month I fondle each tire between 7-5 oclock positions. Then with the car in neutral i push it forward a bit and feel the area in contact with the floor.

I'm looking for 2 things - 1) nails/screws, 2) weird thread wear.

Also, once or twice a year (esp at oil change time), when I jack up the car, I will rotate each tire and inspect with a flashlight. Given jacking the car is a pain, the above suffices for the other times.

-------Edit.. really need to proofread before hitting submit!!

Yep. I was going to check tires, lug nuts, etc. yesterday but I checked the tires first and they were definitely the culprit. Worn bad from mid-tread inboard on both tires.

Get an alignment done/checked asap too.

That’s a great practice. Going to definitely start crawling under there and checking more often.

Yes I was thinking it was something like that because my tires didn’t have that much mileage on them and I’m not one to do burnouts all the time, but it was definitely the tires.

Apparently Kia sets up the stinger with some rear camber. the inside tread will wear first. it happened on mine too. when you get your alignment, ask them to not go with the factory camber spec but take some of it out. your inside tread is worn a ton worse then mine was. I had inside edge wear to the belts too, but my tread wasn't totally gone like yours is.

Thanks. Yes, was going to those yesterday. I checked the tires first

yes it was.
I have a buddy that brought his car over because of some wobble. I jacked it up, checked the bearings, mess with the wheels a bit and then actually looked at the tires and similiar to yours, they were literally threadbare. Crazy how much wear there is on the inside.

What tires are these on the car? Michelin pilot sport of some flavor? 25K miles on those is impressive!

Yes. Apparently. Lol. I don’t think my original tires wore like that. I only have 48K miles on my car. I’ll be monitoring the next ones a lot closer.

They’re actually Bridgestone Comp TAs. I was looking at the warranty on them and they’re normally 45K. Apparently it’s only half that if different size tires front to rear. Hire do you like your Pilots?

I have ~8500 miles on 'em now, wearing well. Dry/wet performance is excellent. I take on/off ramps quite fast (within reason). Had one emergency braking incident, stopped with room to spare, even with abs kicking in.

Can't attest to snow performance as I haven't actually driven in snow yet. Next replacement, was considering the dws06+, but may go with the PS AS4's again.

I encountered a similar issue with an older BMW I own. As it turned out, the problem was with the rotors.
