Valve core too deep on oem rims?

I picked up a 2018 GT2 AWD from Carmax a few months ago and with the weather starting to change to fall here in NC I had a need to put some air in the tires. I have tried 3 different gas stations and 4 different chucks at home and none are able to reach the valve core to open it up so I can put more air in. Is this a Kia thing? It's happening on all 4 wheels and, yes, I even went to all of those gas stations with my wife's Outback and confirmed that everything worked there as well as with the chucks I had in the garage and borrowed from some neighbors. All of those chucks also worked fine on the GTI I had prior to the Kia. Very confusing to say the least lol. Thanks for any help no matter how crazy it might sound :)

are these aftermarket wheels? or maybe when tires were replaced shop put in different ones? ? i've never had an issue and it's no different to fill than any of our other cars.. hmm
 
USUALLY when tires are replaced , valve stems are replaced as well, which will also replace the valve core within the stem. Sure places may not replace them, but it's rare. I doubt the valve stems/valve cores on your OEM wheels are the ones that came with it by now.

They do sell tools you can use to remove/replace/the valve core within the valve stems. Can always see if you can back it out a bit without causing them to leak. If not, and you can't get anything to work, you may have to get the valve stems replaced.

Schrader valve valve are designed such that you don't actually need to press the center pin to add air to a tire.
You only need to press the pin to remove air, or to measure the current pressure.
they are very ubiquitous, and not at all unique to Kia

I suppose it is possible someone before you added some tire sealant through the valve - and glued it shut (never heard of that occurring either)

Guess you could try replacing the core.

hmm.. it looks like it is similar depth.. however is it possibly bent over to the side a little? i think you are supposed to be able to fill without pushing the valve but i've had some that did and if the little push pin part was bent it wouldnt' go...
if it is all 4 that behave like that, i'd say whatever brand/version of the valvestems valves the shop used either defective or just poor quality perhaps... i've never had an issue with my personal air compressors/costco/ anywhere to top off the air..

i think it does.. .but it requires a pretty significant pressure difference to over come the spring and pressure inside.. i've never been able to fill a car tire that was inflated somewhat without making sure the pin was depressed.. some of my previous air chucks was the locking type vs screw on type and if it didn't press down hard enough it would not fill.

Unless is damaged/stuck/wedged/glued.....
Normal operation - the pressure in the supply line will easily overcome the pressure in the tire plus the spring that holds that valve closed.

Yep able to freely press it in. Thank you for the explanation of how the valves work! That’s pretty brilliant.

So at this point I suppose the real problem is that I can’t measure the pressure. I’ll do some looking around and see if the local Harbor Freight or the like has a chuck with a gauge that’ll work before I go back and complain at the tire shop.

If nothing else, it’s good to know this isn’t something super common that I’ve overlooked!

The handheld gauge doesn't extend? On all four tires? Those don't look like OEM valve stems, and something was done that messed them up. You'll probably wind up replacing all four of them, then you should be fine.
 
Backing it out was ultimately the fix. I have a Park Tool VC-1 for my bicycles and was able to use it (with the help of a small adjustable wrench) to back the valve cores out. Thanks all for the help!!!
