Most of the 177 lb. weight discrepancy can be attributed to the AWD system. If the AWD option box was ticked for the V8 model the added weight could hinder "at speed" acceleration numbers but it could also help improve acceleration from a dead stop. But I wouldn't expect a significant change, up or down, as far as performance goes.

So I don't think there is a large enough performance increase (at least based on the above example) to make the V8 Stinger an M, AMG or RS competitor. More power (likely significant) will have to added to the V8 to compete. But the same could happen with the V6 if they so chose.

Yeah, I really don't believe this. I mean - I believe that AutoGuide posted it - and I believe that Hepworth said "I believe they’re developing one" - but that's it. As far as I'm concerned, it's not happening. If there's ever a truly high performance Stinger available, it'll be done with either a V6 or a V6 and electric/battery engine combination.

Yeah, I agree that a V6 / electric combo or just a fully electric version would be awesome!

A full EV is usually something you make from the ground up so you can build a platform to put all that battery weight exactly where it needs to be, as low as possible. Turning the Stinger into a full EV would be a bad idea, not to mention how heavy the Stinger is without batteries. I'd love it if Kia did make a fun, rwd EV or hybrid though. If the Stinger had just enough battery to get me through my short commute to work then I had that gas engine for fun driving that'd be ideal. I imagine things will go that way eventually, it's just taking a really long time. I remember buying a car in 2001 and thinking this'll probably be the last fully ICE car I get. Hah!

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
A speculative quote from a guy not at all in charge and seemingly not at all in the know. It's probable that Hyundai's V8 could technically fit under the Stinger hood, but at best execs are holding the possibility open for future development in much the same way that an electric stinger could still be developed in the future. Both are equally unlikely and definitely not happening within the next 3 or 4 years.
