Recently purchased a 2018 Stinger GT with some paint issues on the trunk. I knoe about the whole paint issue, but no clue what caused this type of peeling. I doubt delareship will do anything since its out of paint warranty, but is there anything I could do to fix it?

Carbon fiber trunk lid…problem solved
I am strongly considering it, but I like the red lid a lot and don't like the carbon fiber price...

The price part sux no doubt, but you find the right person or shop you could have it overlayed in red CF. Best of both for ya. Might be kinda slick though. Costly but different

Is there a general paint issue on the 2018 painted hatches?

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
OP, it's really hard to tell what I'm seeing. Is that chips (you said peeling) or discoloration/fading?

Even the notorious Sunset Yellow buyback campaign did not indicate hatch lid defects. This is the first one I've heard of. I'm not talking about the paint chipped off the leading edge: just like the hood trailing edge, some vehicles have suffered damage (probably under assembly, going unnoticed) along the leading edge of the hatch lid (and trailing edge of the hood: although some of those align with the windshield wipers, and were thus damage caused by pulling up on the wipers).

I think I just jumped to conclusions too fast. It looks like something damaged it and caused chips. I have no clue what could damage it like that though... It sucks, but its another excuse to save up for a CF lid lol.

By the pics, it doesn't appear that the actual paint got reached: that it could be clear coat damage: if that's so, it can be rubbed and polished then protected with wax (or some would say ceramic I suppose). I've never seen any paint damage that reached through to the paint that leaves that odd lighter coloration: paint damage goes right to the metal/plastic.
