Has anyone actually hit their top end speed? I have a 2021 Stinger GT 3.3L hit 153mph and my car stopped climbing. Tried again and same thing. I was under the impression it was a top out of 167mph? I went to their website under disclaimer I’m seeing 149mph top speed. Anyone know more about this?

if you have awd, it will be 149.. you might see 153 on the speedo due to speedometer discrepancies. bmw's were the most notorious for being optimistic.. the models that are limited at 155 would stop there but the speedo would show anywhere from 163-167 as even at 70mph the speedo could be off by 10 mph and that error gets worse at higher speed.

Yes mine is AWD. So only the RWD hits 167? That’s stupid I was so mad last night lol well it hit 153 but the then the car immediately put it back to 151 And that’s where it stayed.

initially if the awd came from factory with the summer tires it also had the 167 top speed, and the non staggered all season tires in 2018 were limited to 130.. then in 2019 the awd models pretty much only came with the staggered michelin a/s tires and a 149 limiter .

well that sucks. I don’t really understand that. My 2000 SVT contours top end was 155mph (aging myself a little here) lol thank you for the info I appreciate that. I’m still mad about that being they advertise the 167. I had no idea

yea.. it is a little annoying if you have a safe place to do that, I don't know how easily it is defeated on our stingers, if a tune can get rid of it.. It's an across the board system regardless of make.. our bmw 540 had a 155 top speed because it had the factory sport package so it came with the higher rated tires.. the standard bmw without the sport package came with tires not rated for that speed so the limiter was 130 on standard 540's.. Generally depends on the tire rating ... h is 130, V is 149, W is 168, Y is 186, and Z is 186+... I say generally because the michelin primacy tour a/s is actually a W rated tire for 168. The pilot sport 4 is a Y.. They are probably just playing it safe.. it is on the window sticker of the car but agreed , it would be nice if it was more obvious.

186! Man that’s crazy fast. Yea I definitely wasn’t reading my sticker the day I bought it and of course my salesman was feeding my false info. (On more then one thing) but yeah there isn’t many safe places to hit that type of speed so I guess it really doesn’t matter. I hit 175 on my bike once and it’s a scary speed if your not somewhere safe. Thanks again for all the information I really appreciate it.

I've hit 155 once. I have AWD on the staggered setup. If I had AWD on 18" wheels and A/S tires I'd have topped out between 130 and 140. This I did not know, like you, when I bought: I only found out after the fact. That Kia has raised the limiter to suit their tire choices by model year is further annoyance, because we now have at least three variables in the lower limiter for A/S tires: 130, 140 and now 149!? But, there is a "fix" in: and that is finding a tune shop that will sabotage the speed limiter. Of course, if Kia ever finds out, then your warranty claims are dead in the water (I'd guess).

SO, if my GTS AWD came with Summer Tires (sticker) the thought is I would hit 149 instead of the advertised 167? Haven't had it above 130MPH, but now curious.

depends on what it came from factory with... I was looking at a awd gts previously and had saved some window stickers.. and it doesn't specify it got all seasons and just says it comes with the summer tires so i'd assume you still have the 167mph limiter.. no mention of a lowered limit.

What ^^^ said: summer tires are not a guarantee, because they could have been substituted for A/S OE. As far as I have been able to tell, if your Stinger came with OE Michelin Pilot Sport 4S summer tires, your speed limiter is set at 167: all other tire/wheel combos have a lower speed limiter (which one depending mainly on which model year, evidently).

Hit the top speed limiter many times, even when stock. Stops at 277km/h.

So I have All Season now, but the original owner swapped out the Summer Michelin’s at 3000 miles ((I bought it at 4600 miles).

I guess I may have to test it to find out..if I get over 149mph I should be able to get to 167mph then?

For science haha. Sounds like you will have the 167 limit though

I have a 19 AWD GT2 and I've pushed it a few times. So far I've hit 159 with the staggered setup and it was still pulling. I got a bit scared and was running out of room. No doubt it would of hit mid 160's.

You are all far braver than I am. I have a GT-RWD with the 19-inch staggered setup and factory summer performance tires. After my initial break-in I tested top speed. Got up to 131 then called it a day. Car felt pretty stable and hit that number pretty quickly. That's the fastest I've ever gone in the Stinger and don't think I've hit a three-digit number ever since that one time in this car. I normally cut it off by the time I'm in the mid/high 80's or low 90's if I'm being honest.

I think so. But what is the speed rating on your A/S? If it's "W", then 167 MPH matches the speed rating of 168. An A/S tire rated as "V" (149 MPH) would be exceeded if you pushed to the 167 speed limiter.

I just checked and it has 96W on the sidewall. I guess the OG owner could have put that on though as well..

I have a 21 GT AWD AND I HIT 153mph it then immediately knocked me down to 151 And kept me there. So if you have a AWD it’s safe to say you can do 151 just 2mph over what they say but I did I 175 on my bike and there is really no reason to ever go that fast. I felt safer on my bike going to fast. Trust me 150mph is fast As hell. I was heading home from work at 2am no traffic on hwy and it was incredible going to fast I was bummed about the 167. But not I’m over it. Unless you hit a track I don’t get care to hit more then 120 then start slow back down. You really can’t comprehend mentally how fast 150 plus is. Trust me I love going fast I average 13mpg. Heavy foot. Plus I have a JB4, air take kits, upgraded speak plugs and a JUN BL Dow pipe and cat back exhaust. Map 4 this things hits 100mph in no time. I’m not Saying go fast but be careful. Hit a track or drag strip. I did the 153 on a empty hwy but you Just never know what can happened at that speed. Almost lost my leg to my bike accident just be smart. Hitting a track in august very excited.
