Thermostat replacement

Hi everyone, got the p0597 code. Dealer says the thermostat needs replaced, they are quoting me 1500$ for the job. My car is just over the 60k mile mark by 1000 miles. To me the price is absurd but what do you guys think?

It's not absurd, just high. List price of thermostat itself is over $200. Plus you have to replace and bleed the coolant system after replacement. Get quotes from independent shops. I would say it should be in 700-800 range.

Yeah they just quoted me $3500. Said it would take 10 hours of labor

There is a list price here of over $1000 for the thermostat and housing. Thermostats used to be a drop in unit costing about $30 but obviously times have changed.

It is not necessary to drop the engine according to this video.

Thermostat price here is over $1000 plus fitting.

I would expect at least $2000 to be supplied and fitted at a dealership.

Rule of thumb.

1. Take the dealer supplied price

2. Double it to be dealer fitted.
