Hey guys, as I mentioned in the introduction post, I'll be sharing photos of my Stinger as I get my hands on it. Since there's a lot of photos out there already, I don't really know what to share on the forum that you guys have not already seen. So I am starting with the key fob.

Maybe a trivial thing but for some, but it's the small things that go to show how much attention Kia has paid to the Stinger. I personally, really like the key fob's design, it may not be the most advanced fob in the world - but you won't find a 'cooler' fob than the Stinger's on the market today, in my opinion. I believe the key fob is identical on all trim levels. There were two identical key fobs issued with my Stinger, nothing else.

Overall, it works well. You can lock/unlock the car with the key fob, or press the little black button on the door handle to lock/unlock as long as you have the key on you. Press and hold a button to open the trunk remotely, will only open all the way up if you have the smart trunk option. Press and hold the other button to sound the horn and blinkers if you have troubles locating your Stinger. Then, press and pull to release the hidden physical key.

While I really like the design of the key fob, I want to point out a few things. The keys are made out of metal (at least by look and feel) but not chrome - only the bezel is made out of chrome. Mine came with the E logo, yey. The rest is covered with black (the only color) textured hard plastic, the stitching is faux of course. It's nitpicking now but I wish the plastic color could match with the car's interior, I have the brown interior, and it would be nice to get a matching color key fob. I also like the dark-chrome accents around the Stinger and would be lovely if the key also comes in the same dark-chrome. Still, this shouldn't tempt you away from the Stinger - I feel like a snob mentioning it.

By the way, I am open to photo requests of my Stinger. Since I don't know what you guys want to see - better to just let me know.

The Stinger key fob IS really nice and it made headlines here earlier in the year. It's a nice, unique design and I have a feeling people here are going to want that E-Fob as well. We have the same thing with a KIA logo on it. I wonder if people will prefer a cover or some type of replacement. But thank you for posting the pictures and giving a little information on it's capabilities. :)

a few exterior shots and some interiors would be nice ,I want an E fob !

I hear ya. There's something about going out to dinner or hanging out at a bar and putting down a KIA key fob. Not everyone will agree but that's the way it goes. That E-Fob will be a hot seller, I'm sure...

Right? I wonder if I can get a better deal on that. I'll be poking around. What does it typically take to get one of these key fobs working when it wasn't the original that came with your car?

You typically have to go to a dealer so they can program it for you.

Usually depends on the manufacturer. Back when it was just for opening the car and such, you just did some special pattern with the gas pedal and such and could pair it. Since these chips in them now are for keyless start and everything it'll probably have to be programmed by the dealer. They charge an arm and leg for that. I think I paid like 120 to get it done for one of my old vehicles.

I love forums. People know everything. :p Okay, so while it's not cheap - I'd be happy to pay $120 for that e-fob. :p

You might not need to pay it. I know for the optima you can buy a just the "case" part of the fob. You then basically transfer the guts from one case to another. No pairing or trip to the dealer necessary. I broke my fob, but it still worked, it was just cracked. Found the new shell on Amazon, don't remember exactly what I paid but it was around 15.00 I think. My guess is eventually you will be able to do the same for the stinger fob.

Now I would definitely do that. For 120 I'll keep the Kia one lol.

We need at guinea pig here! :p

Thank you mod for moving this thread to the right place, I wasn't sure where this topic belongs.

I echo the suggestions that you should be able just to change the plastic cover if you want the E logo instead of the Kia one. I took more photos of the fob, another side of the edge (the plastic edge) to show that both sides of the plastic cover are just clamped together and should be easily removable. I was wondering about replacing the fob's battery. So there's another photo of the fob with the physical key removed. Can't seem to find the openings into the battery.

I will ask the Kia dealer/service people about getting replacement plastic fob cover with the E logo when I get to talk to them next time.

You can get this fob in my store but for $ 123.78 shipped by EMS (4-6 days). Ebay seller uses cheap shipping without tracking which takes long and that's why there is difference in price. This kind of shipping proved unreliable and took to long so EMS only is used.

BTW I'm vendor with paid subscription to forum owner and I'm just waiting for him to create my own section and my name is Simon :)

Oh thank you. I knew I need to read more.

Seems like the key's structural construction was the two plastic pieces - now I wonder if Kia sells just those plastic parts or not. Looks like you have to buy the entire fob new.
