I know this topic has been addressed in multiple threads and that the cracking/poping from the stinger sunroof is a known issue. I just want to know has there been a general consensus what exactly causes it and what would be the way to fix it?

I have tried with the pressing of the headliner technique which one poster mentioned but it doesn't work. My sunroof makes noises only when the glass is exposed (sunroof cover pulled back). As soon as i open the roof or close the cover the sounds stop. The cover could be deafening the noise but it is really thin so i thing that it somehow makes a difference when it slides in and that it is not just audio canceling. The sound is kinda like rain drops falling on the right side of the roof. I noticed that the right side of the bug net, the little leg where it is connected to the roof frame, makes a noise when i wiggle it, but i don't now if this could be the cause.

I saw a poster mentioning that the sound could be coming from metal on metal rubbing and that a possible solution could be to remove the roof glass and insert rubber pads under all the screws. Has this solution been tried by anyone and does it actually work.

I will be taking my stinger to service next week so i could use a suggestion what to tell the guys to help them and speed up the trial and error process. Help would be much appreciated and sorry for starting another sunroof thread but the latest info would be awesome.

The insulating "rubber" has been tried and it has worked. That's how we found out about it on here.

But there isn't one cause of extraneous sunroof noises. That's the problem, it's variable causes; and there could be more than one cause going on. I don't see how the bug catcher could be causing it when the glass is closed(?). Did you try elevating the rear edge to see if that changes anything? Since the "rain dropping" noise is on the right side, does putting pressure on the closed glass change anything? Move around (if you wear cotton gloves, you won't have to clean your glass off afterward :p).

I suspect the bug catcher because when i wiggle the bug catchers right "leg" it makes a popping sound and the left one doesn't. I tried putting tape on it but it still pops. It is weird because when i completely close the sunroof cover the noises stop , like it presses the whole mechanism and it stops.

That's what I am not understanding from your description: you said that with the sunroof open you don't hear the noise; so the bug catcher with the "popping leg" isn't the culprit. Now, closed, I suppose that some distortion in the "mashed" bug catcher could cause rubbing and produce noises. But nobody, yet, has IDed the bug catcher as the source of their sunroof noises.

That is weird i agree. The circled part in the photo is the one making the sound when i move it. I just accused the bug net "leg" because the sound somewhat matched the sound coming from the roof. Now why does it not produce the sound once the glass is opened or the cover is closed i cannot say. I could be totally wrong because i don't know how would the sunroof that needs the rubber pads fix sound.

Before I drove stinger I used to have a Q5. The sunroof have same issue with you. There are sloution pack on Chinses Taobao(aliexpree) for $10, its basic a rubber with some "sponge", after apply to the " bug net "leg" "(a little bit future postion) it solved the problem for 70%.
You can try put two thin sponge for each side and move back/forward and test where is the best place, I think it could help and its cheap.
P.S sponge is black ,not yellow one, I didnot know the name of it

Same issue with mine. It happens only a few times, but I hear it and it annoys me. I also have a crackling/popping noise in the headliner by the sunroof opening. I pressed it firmly and some noise went away but not all and it comes back.

Did you try pushing harder? Further out or along the edge?
