Evening. Anyone got a trick to remove stuck Brembo Guide Pins? They hold the pads in place. Decided to replace my stock with some beautiful DBA's. Started on the front passanger side and right of the bat had the 2 rotor screw heads snap as I was trying to get them out. I had sprayed them with WD40 penetrating spray and let it soak before attempting. Even an extractor set couldn't get them out. In the end rotor of new rotor on with pads. Moved onto the driver side. This one was also had rusted in screws, but with one of those punch screw drivers I got both out and replaced with new ones. Old rotor of new one on. Time to move to rears. Both sides had 1 pin that just wouldn't move when hammering it with the punch. Tried Brake Cleaner letting it soak then small injection of WD 40 into the pin ends hoping it would penetrative. Still no go. Wheels back on for now. Booked an appointment to get it done next week but if anyone has a suggestion on how to get them to move I'll make another attempt Saturday.

Spray the backs of the pins with penetrant, that's where the split/crush ring is on the pins. Then tap them in from the back before trying the other way to remove. the split/crush rings get fouled and moving them back and forth usually does the trick. As for the rotor screws...break em or drill em out...that aren't necessary, the wheel hold the rotors on anyway. I think it was more for assembly then anything else.

There exists a tool with hallow tip (so it doesn't slip off)

Use this, and just hit harder - it will definitely come out.

Sounds like it's moot at this point, but are you talking about one of those manual impact drivers, where you hit it with a hammer and it turns under the impact so it doesn't slip?

I'm surprised the screws were that stuck on such a new car, but I have encountered this with older cars and the manual impact is really the way to go.

I replaced rotors when my Stinger was less than a year old, and about half of the screws snapped. Rotor screws are just a nightmare.

Thank god for the 4lb mallet. Rotors took a good beating to get of. Even took a nice chunk out of the edge on one

When you remove rotors with a Mallet remember, you hit the rotor in TOWARDS the car not out, then the rotor should just drop off............hitting the rotor IN pops the opposite side out....

Hitting the rotor OUT drives the opposite side IN...............and it don't work....

Rotor screws would've just needed a proper bit and an impact and they wouldve broken loose super easy. I'm guessing you tried using a screw driver or a drill, both methods are notorious for stripping rotor screws especially if you used the wrong bit size. As far as the rotors being stuck on, lots of tricks for that but yeah I usually just give it a whack with a mallet a few times.

Actually used one of those impact screwdrivers. Didnt work. These were rusted on big time.

I use a T10 screwdriver and just give it a good whack with a hammer. they come right out without complaint.
