I always dread having my brakes done as it is almost guaranteed no matter who I have do them that something gets f&*%ed up. Is this common in the automotive industry or am I just very unlucky?

Usually if it was just pads id swap them myself but I had vibrations when braking and my miles were still low 20k miles on my 2019 GTS so I figured id take a shot and see if the dealer would cover them or at least turn the rotors. They didn't cover them and that was expected because I had already bought a front set of Stoptech pads from k8stingerstore. They did however offer to resurface my rotors and install the brake pads I had for $175 which I thought wasn't bad considering they would waive the $150 diagnostic fee. Maybe I would have a better experience with a dealer familiar with these cars?

I get the car back and the dealer tells me the pads looked very different than the stock pads and could not get them to fit saying the wear indicator was in the way. They said they had to install them with the wear indicator on the outside pad on the rotor. (Usually the wear indicator is on the inside pad because that one typically wears faster and you don't see the metal clip.)

Anyways I get the car back and leave the lot and immediately they feel terrible and spongy. My immediate thought is air in the lines but part of me also thought maybe they just need to be bedded in so I go through the procedure but the whole time I'm thinking these brakes feel absolutely terrible. For comparison I drove my wife's Jeep Cherokee and it brakes better than my performance car with Brembo calipers... Something is wrong. One time when I was attempting to bed in the brakes the car even torqued to one side for a split second but I could not replicate that again. At this point I'm starting to think there is air in the lines but the dealer said they used a brake depressor and did not open the lines...

To top it off I get this strange humming sound while braking... sounds like HHHHHHuuuuuuuuuMMMMMMMMMMMmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm Very audible even with the radio on. I have read that sometimes turned rotors can make a noise so at 1st I disregard this I drive for about 5 days hoping the hum goes away and braking improves but given all the other issues i'm now beginning to think that something may be rubbing causing the hum! I was with my family and braked kinda hard for a semi quick turn off a 55 mile per hour road and was surprised when my abs kicked in before feeling my brakes bite. Just felt like loose friction until my abs kick in, no bite at all. At this point I'm starting to feel like these aren't safe to drive on the streets.

Took it to the dealer today and they initially tried blaming it on the pads as I expected... But I'v read many reviews of people saying they like the Stoptech pads and that they bite as well or better than stock.
They are going to look at it early next week, hopefully they will make it right but its a strange situation because the brake pads were aftermarket so its really easy for them to simply blame the pads.

I guess its possible that I received the wrong pads by mistake. I ordered the correct Stoptech pad for the GT with Bembos but never looked at the actual pads after receiving them, just handed the box to the dealer. Id post a link the the pads but my account is too fresh but i went back in my emails to make sure i ordered the Brembo version and I did. Does anyone have a picture of what these pads should look like? From what in understand the stock Stoptech picture is not that of the actual pad.

Anyone got any advice on how to handle this situation or any opinions on what may be wrong? What are your experiences with Stoptech brake pads? Can you depress a caliper too far? Why is there a hum? Why are the pads feeling soft when a caliper depressor was used and the brake lines never opened? What should I expect from the dealer at this point given that the pads were aftermarket?

This has been very frustrating! Thanks in advance for any feedback.
