i have never owned a Kia before.. I usually went with BMW and they held there value pretty good.. for the people that have bought and sold kias before, how are they compared to say Nissan or Ford? I assume they have been getting better re sale every year as there jd power ranking have gone up and up each year.. I think the thing that hurts them is the huge rebates they ar always offering.. but I may be wrong.. chime in if you have had good success with Kia..

Here in the US Kia's have horrible resale value, especially the top end ones like the k900 and cadenza. As for the stinger, who really knows. I would assume if you 50% value after 3 years/36k miles you'll be lucky. It could be better than the average Kia if it stays rare and Kia doesn't discount it a ton, but sports cars are known to lose more value than the average car, and Kia is known to chuck huge discounts at the k900..

I think times are changing for Kia and resale values will in fact start improving. Awards are being won, the entire model line is attractive and none of them are “dogs” at this point. Every car class model is good in its own right.

The Cadenza is tough because that full size market is small. The K900 is huge and thirsty and isn’t unique enough to make it overly appealing to the masses.

The stinger should be a different story. If “everyone” is holding out for them to depreciate, the value of them may remain good especially for GT trim. Simply supply and demand. Add the GT2 trim having features that are even more rare... that’s my optimistic approach. I hope they limit discounts and supply to help this. And may they NEVER get sold to rental fleets!!!

I think people assumed it'd be bad because that's just "Kia," but seeing the demand for this car, especially those who are saying they want to wait a year or two, I think the resell value will be pretty inflated specifically for the Stingers.

Too soon to even make a good prediction. If after the initial flush of excitement - and the corresponding sales - subside, the interest drops off, this thing is going to become a white elephant. It won't matter that it's an excellent machine ... if people turn their backs on it, resale will be dismal.

Kia has a LOT riding on this car. I just hope they apply enough resources to it to make it a sales success. People's minds CAN be changed, but it's hard, and if they perceive the Stinger as a substandard product, it's going to become just another Kia. But it has the chance to turn the corner for them and make Kia an aspirational brand.

Given some time has passed, how's everyone feeling about the Stinger holding value?

I plan on keeping mine for ten years, minimum...unless, I trade it in on another Stinger down the road (when they will hopefully still be making them).

Since I have now owned (leased) two Stingers, I can only relate my experiences. January 31 I leased a base RWD model and on Oct 25 I upgraded to a Premium 2.0 RWD at the same dealer. Sold my base to Carvana for $28,300 at 4400 miles. Two dealers offered me $23,000. I owed $23,300 on the lease so I then had $5000 to put down on the Premium....another lease with the intent to buy. Debated going to a GT but could not justify the expense and lower fuel economy when I can’t really open it up around here in the mountains. The Premium has everything I could want.....the safety package, 15 speakers, puddle lights, auto headlights, larger touchscreen, auto seats with settings, sunroof, remote start, etc etc. A JB4 will do for extra power if and when I want it. Have no idea what the private market is like for pricing since I never really tried it. I’ve ceramic coated it myself, added a spoiler, new winter wheels and tires, tinted windows, re-badged and soon will have the roof, fin and rear corners shot with Halo EFX gloss black.

There's been other threads here that have debated the long term 'viability' of the Stinger. Resale is part of that discussion. Time will tell. Personally, I don't think the Stinger as we know it will ever be 'popular' (I'm fine with that). It's an enthusiasts car in the sports-sedan segment, and many of the traditional sedan buyers - even if they want a sporty car - are moving to SUV's. And, Kia is competing against some presently overwhelming competition (the Germans) in this segment. Kia is getting what they want from this car - the 'halo'. It is changing brand perception of Kia. But that takes a long time. "Car people" love the car. I think the Stinger will evolve. I believe Kia can and will tweak the car to move down the MSRP in the 2nd gen. For me, I usually hang on to my cars for a long time. Resale was not a consideration for me. And, I have a feeling that those of us who hang on to this great 1st gen car have a future classic on our hands.

How was the selling experience with Carvana? Was the appraisal and valuation process easy and low pressure? I've always taken my car to carmax for an appraisal before asking a dealer for tradein value. Was wondering if there's another easy route when it's time to trade and upgrade.

Yes, it’s all handled online. You give them your license number, registration and the lien holder info, they give you a buyout number. If it makes sense there is more paperwork, they come get the car and give you a check.....supposing you have equity. I must say that their customer service is top notch and it was an easy experience.
