Stinger DNA in the new Hyundai Super Car...............

Hyundai has confirmed plans to build its first-ever supercar. Now that we know what the Korean automaker is planning, the time for speculation begins. There are a lot of different directions we can go to, but we’re focusing on Hyundai’s sister company, Kia, and the latter’s own — and new — performance car: the Kia Stinger GT. Knowing what we know about the Stinger GT and Kia’s admission that the sports sedan is capable of so much more, is it possible that Hyundai could tap into the Stinger’s DNA as it develops its own supercar?

It’s been a year since the Kia Stinger GT first made our hearts flutter. The sleek and sexy 365-horsepower machine debuted at the 2017 Detroit Auto Show, becoming one of the most talked-about cars of the past year. Part of the endless string of narratives surrounding the Stinger GT was the possibility of a more potent version coming in the next few years. Some have even christened it the Stinger “GT-R,” a reference to Nissan’s mighty Godzilla that resides just across the Korea Strait in Japan. I think it would be easy to reuse a lot from the core platform and parts bins, but tweak the suspension, crank the specs on the engine and slap on a sleek and sexy body.

also creates a nice internal competiton that will ensure more rapid development of better and better cars .................all great news !

Obviously, it should not resemble the Kia Stinger in ANY way or form. On one hand, I love the idea of a "super" car. On the other, I feel Hyundai needs to break out with an affordable "exotic" car. Something along the lines of an Acura NSX or Audi R8 - but not so expensive that you never see one. $90k. $100k. Why not?

Hyundai and Kia have been using this formula for a long time - offering what the expensive luxury brands offer for much less. Cars like the K900 and Equus allowed ordinary people to experience what it's like to drive an S-Class Mercedes-Benz. So where's the exotic car experience? I hope it's coming. It can be priced high enough that not everybody flipping burgers can afford one - but anyone with a solid career can. It may not be as rare and exotic as a Lamborghini or Ferrari - but it'll be a very cool looking, sporty performance car - in the same way the Acura NSX was in it's first generation. And comfortable. And reliable! The door is wide open here...

GREAT to hear! A BIG rule of thumb is if you cannot purchase a car within 3 years, you cannot afford it. They are MANY principals to that, but it's HIGHLY true. I've had people say "I can afford it, I just don't want to put that much into a car right now..." Yah, right. IT means something else critical gets sacrificed. Or their credit isn't so good, or, or, or. Far too often we want things we can afford and justify how to get them. Factory program leases are the #1 carrot in getting people to take the bait. They can afford something small down, work on the $3k to $1k or so, or get it as a walk-off lease, and then pay $399 a month or something like this, only to never be able to afford the car after 3 years, nor having saved for it. People get sucked into renting cars the rest of their lives, or for a big portion of time...

So I commend you to saving money! Bravo! Delayed gratification, no debt. You know what they say about not being able to walk away from your job or fear getting fired? Because you have too much debt to pay! Live 100% debt free and you will experience true financial freedom - it's fantastic! I Hope more like you will encourage others here and elsewhere to save and purchase.

I am also looking at a 2.0L version. I once owned a 265HP Nissan Maxima, but my Mazda6 feels magnitudes faster and more nimble. I test drove the 2.0L. It just added to the Mazda experience. I feared the Stinger would feel big and bulky - it didn't. Stinger is really well positioned. Now, now to afford the blue Premium?... I know, I could save! ; )

Yeah, I'm leaning toward the Premium. I like the memory driver seat since my wife will drive it as well (unfortunately) and the 8" screen looks better than the base. The machined wheels look better than the base, too. I would consider stepping up to a GT, but it loses features that the Premium has.

I don't think they'd go with a mid-engine layout. Both Peter Schreyer and Albert Biermann never worked on a high-performance mid-engine car before.

Schreyer did work on the New Beetle, but that doesn't count.

I like the idea of something along the line of a GTR but then, don't think my wife would ever get me a 2-door sports sedan.

I actually would prefer Kia/Hyundai to give the Stinger more performance and options. I really like this whole grand tour sportsback the Stinger is offering but with more "advanced" options. Hybrid-V6 would be nice, V8 even better, fully autonomous driving, for example.

The Stinger still has so much more room for improvement. The looks alone is 'super' car worthy in my opinion.

I actually would prefer Kia/Hyundai to give the Stinger more performance and options. I really like this whole grand tour sportsback the Stinger is offering but with more "advanced" options. Hybrid-V6 would be nice, V8 even better, fully autonomous driving, for example.

I'm sure there's lots to come. And if the Stinger sells well enough, I'm sure we'll see a Super Stinger by next generation...

By the looks of things, it seems the Stinger is already considered a success. both as a halo car and sales-wise.

China is becoming such a huge market for cars. It's probably going to be a gold mine for Kia and the Stinger...
