Tools needed:
  • 10mm socket for battery connections
  • Flatblade screwdriver (thin, long) to remove airbag
  • 22mm socket for steering wheel bolt
  • Phillips screwdriver
Remove airbag:
  1. Make sure your steering wheel is straight
  2. Remove all liners / trays in trunk floor
  3. Disconnect negative terminal of battery and tuck it under the drain hose so that it won't accidentally make contact with the battery again

  4. (optional) Remove positive terminal cover and unplug everything you can because you're deathly afraid of the airbag exploding in your face
  5. (optional) Remove every fuse in the driver side knee panel labeled with 'airbag' for the same reasons as #3

  6. Wait 10 minutes just in case
  7. Notice just next to your paddle shifters there is a small hole. Stick your flatblade screwdriver in each hole (blade parallel to the ground) and push. The airbag should pop out a little bit on each side

  8. Look on the bottom side of the lower trim piece of your steering wheel and you will find another small hole like in #7. Keep the same orientation of the blade and push the screwdriver in the hole. At this point the airbag will be loose

  9. The airbag is connected with 3 connections. First, remove the small one, then the pink one, then the purple one. I don't know if this order matters but nothing exploded on me

  10. Put airbag somewhere safe
Remove steering wheel:
  1. Don't think about using an impact wrench here, you might damage the steering column
  2. Unplug the electrical connection just above the 22mm center nut

  3. Remove the 22mm center nut (easier said than done)
  4. Remove steering wheel
Remove all trim pieces and controls from the factory steering wheel
  1. Refer to attached PDF from the service manual
Replace all trim pieces and controls on your new steering wheel
  1. Read the attached PDF from the service manual in reverse

To add heated functionality to a GT2 RWD: (not sure if this applies to a GT or GT1, someone needs to confirm if the wiring is in place). In total, it's going to be about $650. I didn't have a problem with this because I think it's insane the alcantara steering wheel is only ~$350 by itself.

You will need to follow post 1 to replace your steering wheel with a heated steering wheel. I used the heated alcantara because it's awesome. Alcantara heated steering wheel - Kia Stinger Genuine OEM Alcantara D-Cut Steering Wheel Part number J5561-AB000

Before you put the new steering wheel together, you will need to replace the 'extension wire' so that the heated element in the new steering wheel can be plugged in
Steering wheel extension wire - 56190J5100 - Genuine Kia EXTENSION WIRE Part number 56190 J5100

  1. Take a few pictures of the factory wiring so you can fit the new one in the same orientation. It's a pretty tight fit.
While the steering wheel is off, you will need to replace the clock spring since the factory one does not have the connection for the heated steering wheel. Clock spring -

Part number 93490 J5320
  1. Follow the attached PDF extracted from the service manual. It's pretty simple.
Replace the combination floor switch with Console floor switch -
93300J5160CA - Genuine Kia COMPLETE-CONSOLE FLOOR
Part number 93300 J5160CA (I'm 90% sure this is the one I have, but my part numbers are covered. Here's the ebay link of the one I bought for $85 Genuine OEM Center Console Floor Combination Switch For 2018 2019+ Kia Stinger | eBay)

  1. Follow this guide from ~2:50 - ~5:00. It's only 2 screws to take the stock buttons out
