My wife and I are getting ready to go on a trip and after checking the tire pressures, decided I should check out my spare. These donuts are supposed to be filled to 60# but I discovered mine was about 30#. I doubt this would get us very far if we had to use it! I guess I should check my receipt for my last dealer visit. I thought they were supposed to check this and make sure it was properly inflated. I am glad I took the trouble to look into this, and also am impressed with the nice way the spare is mounted in the trunk with the nice tool kit and jack. Well done Kia!

I have a feeling a lot of people might forget to check the psi in the spare, especially when it's hidden from view. the kit is indeed nice and I like how there's extra spaces for you to put more things in too.

1) who’s they?
2) unless you JUST bought your stinger… it’s up to you to check air pressure (on all tires btw)…

I understand my responsibility, but think the dealer servicing should include checking the spare tire pressure, considering what they charge and how little they do for the money. I regularly check the air pressure in the 4 on the road, but had given little thought to the one in the trunk, in part because both my previously owned Corvette and current MB SL400 do not have a spare tire. With staggered tires on the Stinger GT2, I was a little surprised to learn it even has a spare tire.

Your point is well taken, all the same. When I had excessive tire wear on my wife's MB E350, I was also surprised that tire rotation was not part of MB's expensive regular maintenance visits. The tire pressure is routinely checked when I get an oil change, in addition to my own monitoring, but apparently spare tires are not, so I just want others to be aware and take care.

the staggering doesn't matter the overall diameter is the same front and rear.

Thanks for the clarification. With the rears wider, I wonder if the offset is different and whether it makes any difference with regards to use of the spare.

the offset of the wheels are different but the spare donut is narrow and fits on any corner. Granted I still wouldn't drive on it for long and definitely not at high rates of speed haha. Also it's ugly.

I will say though I am impressed they used an alloy wheel and not a steel one.

1) dealer service dept. at Kirby Kia in Ventura, CA.
2) Receipt specifies check tire pressures and adjust. While the spare is not specifically mentioned, it is a tire. If it was set at 60#, it has lost nearly 30# in a few months. The service also included checking battery connections and there is a battery directly beneath the spare tire so checking the spare tire pressure seems like a no brainer to me.

Definitely check the spare tire pressure. I learned this the hard way when I got a flat on a highway and had to put my spare on a previous vehicle I owned and found it was just as flat as the tire I was replacing.

A specific mention of this, and an empty (cleaned out) hatch will likely result in a report on the spare's psi. I haven't looked at mine since I bought the car. :P

Just decided to check my spare wheel pressure and found it was only 38psi, far short of 60 .

Wonder if it deflated by 1psi every month, or was like that from the factory?

There's a reason I keep a small tire inflator in the car at all times. It's amazing how many times it's come in handy.

Just about all tires lose pressure over time. That is just the nature of the beast. Spare tire is no different, except some folks don't even bother checking their spares.
