Does anybody know what size stainless steel mesh I need to get on amazon for the side vents? There used to be a link on the how to section along with the template, but the link to the amazon site seems to have dissipated after the thread was locked for further comments.

Hey there @SilverNitr8 , the thread your looking for on this forum might be: Brake vent Fix, search for it using the "Find" top of the page, and the template kindly provided by @AV8R , which i used to create two for my Stinger is available through a link in that thread, hope this helps.

Yup that was the one I am referring to. There used to be a link there for the amazon page for the mesh, but I no longer see it on that thread.

Thanks! Was one enough to do both sides or did you have to buy 2?
One sheet is more than enough, the sheet I ordered was the size of an A4 sheet of paper, plenty left over to do a couple of cars at least.
1st copy the template in-case of mistake, then cut out the shapes, a hint, cut a little longer on each end of the mesh, the template came up a little short so you can always trim it back, easy to fit without removing the tyre, once you do the first one the second will be easy...good luck.

@Stinger GT SS do you have any of that left to do another car? How much would you want for it if you do? Could get you to post it up to me or I could drive to Sydney to pick it up. It’d be an excuse to go for a run down the Old Pacific Hwy and stretch my Stinger’s legs one weekend ;)

I was about to suggest that. You can get suitable material from any number of places - and window screen comes in dozens of combinations of materials, styles and colors. Heck, you can get similar material in sheets from art supply stores!

I actually have some spare window screen mesh when I fixed our window screens...I just didn't know how it would hold up with impacts from rocks since they're not stainless steel.

If it's metal, it's stainless. The nylon stuff is pretty sturdy but, hey, if it gets damaged, you have a whole of it!

Just an fyi that T-316 steel mesh is pretty much corrosion resistant against de-icing salts and good for marine use. So if you're looking for something really resistant to rusting thats probably the best way to go over traditional t-304 stainless steel.

Totally agree using 316 SS in your neck of the woods, especially with de-icing salts, we don’t have that issue here so 304 grade SS is fine.

Hi @Coast GT, sorry I don’t want to sell what I have left, I may make another pair for my car, as I stated & you can see with my pictures they are a little short, me being anal will change these as it already bugs the crap out of me cause I know they are like that...lol.
Still for $8 on eBay it’s cheaper than driving down the coast, although I get that any excuse to stretch the Stingers legs on a road like the old Pacific Highway is tempting. Maybe it’s time for all Stinger owners in & around Sydney to do a run & a meet somewhere, Bathurst was a lot of fun last month.

No dramas mate just thought I’d ask on the off chance. I know what you mean though it’d bug me too I’m like that generally but even more so with the Stinger at the moment. Might ease up when the novelty and the newness wears off but I doubt it.

No problems if I didn’t need you could have had it. I’ve had mine since Nov. & the novelty has not worn off, it’s actually the complete opposite, I have just come back from my dealer this morning checking out his current stock & pricing accessories in the Spare Parts Dept....lol

Thanks for posting that - never even thought about checking out other alloys. I just received my sheet of 304 mesh today, that I was going to use in the wheels vents. Tonight after looking up the properties of both, I'll be using the 304 as a replacement for the collapsed mesh guard over my BBQ's ceramic searing burner instead, and ordering a sheet of 316 for the car.

I ordered from Inoxia in the UK (via Amazon) - very good selection of products in both alloys and different mesh sizes, though their 316 mesh is mostly available in very fine sizes. Fortunately they also have T316 5 mesh (65% open area). I didn't want to go too small, and cut off most of the vent airflow.

Glad I caught this before installation. Calgary does heavy application of salt solution in the winter, and those vents are going to be coated in it a lot of the time. I prefer doing a job right the first time ...
