Selma Kia- $5k to $7k markup with dealer installed options (Lojack and some type of "Paint Protection".... reminds me of the dealer installed "Rust Protection" trick. I chastised them about the markup.

Thank you for sharing this! :) They wouldn't let up on the markup, huh?

They said they could "work on it" but I did not give them a chance. I test drove both 2.0L and GT and left. Actually went back to the Audi dealer.... Such a better experience than KIA dealers.

I hear ya. Kia has a lot of growing to do. But they will. If you go back, tell 'em to give you a call when they're ready to start negotiating at MSRP - but in the meantime, that you have your eyes set on something else (time sensitivity)...

I mentioned to another guy before. Bakersfield has a couple GTs left and i got them to remove the markup. There's was 3,000.00. Talk to a guy named David. Bakersfield is a very short drive away to save 5-7 grand

I was quoted 36k for the white premium that they have at Selma. It was 43K sticker price with a 5k markup. They will definitely remove it if you are serious about it. Didn't end up purchasing the car because I wanted the drivers assistance package.

Thank you for adding input to this! Much appreciated...

What's markup explained to a non US person?

When the dealer decides he is going to try and give you the big end of the stick...

Basically in the US all cars have a MSRP or manufacturers suggested retail price. In practice no one ever pays MSRP though usually quite a bit less as the dealer paid way less for the car and on top of that the manufacturer pays a percentage back to the dealer on top of that to sell it. Usually 3%. So we as buyers get to go in and haggle and shop dealers against each other like we were buying a souvenir in tiajuana. Not fun but deals can be had, I just bought a car for over 18% less than MSRP. A mark-up is when the dealer thinks he has something special and wants to charge MORE than MSRP. Almost unheard of..

Also ridiculous because the dealers have nothing to do with engineering or manufacturing of these vehicles. They are attempting to reap pure profit from high-demand, low-supply merchandise, even though the manufacturer doesn't change it's own prices. Some call this simple capitalism, but it's out of whack, IMO, when the actual supplier doesn't support it, but doesn't have any direct ability to influence the state-mandated middle-man.
