RUMOR: Kia's Electric 600-HP Stinger Replacement Has Been Canceled

Kia Scraps GT1 Development Amid Changing Market Tides

Consensus seems Kia is seeing the drop in EV sales across the entire EV industry and they are going to push to lower end models. This is also where Tesla is apparently targeting (after briefly saying they weren't) at the < $30K market.

A shame cause the EV6, ID4 and Ioniq all look like a early 2010s Ford Escort hatchback or early 2010s Nissan Murano to me. The Mach-E isn't much better -- kind of a rip off they even gave it the Mustang name. I sleep....

I'd like to see the Tesla Model 3/S/Y get some competition in the sedan cateogry. A penalty of their success -- their body styles have become so common they are starting to look pedestrian. That and a $100K Tesla looks the same as a $40K Tesla.

Now is the time for a Stinger refresh, with 3.5 TT. And a K5 GT that pairs the 2.5T with AWD.

And a Telluride/Palisade refresh that makes it RWD-based (with AWD) so the 3.3/3.5TT is an option...

Now that a large fraction of the public is convinced that there is no real climate crisis, and also is more aware of issues with the US charger network, KIA would be wise to back off EVs in favor of ICEs and PHEVs. At some point, it will no longer be cool or smart for wealthy buyers to drive an EV, and sales will stagnate.

Long-range EVs can make sense for the tiny fraction of drivers that require a range of a few hundred miles per day. Maybe KIA can sell cheap lightweight EVs with a 30-50 mile range for local errands that charge overnight at 120 V. If early ICE vehicles required half-ton gas tanks, we might still be using horses.

Same issues here in Australia, the charger network is crap & disjointed, EV sales don‘t appear good for Kia EV6 & EV9 especially at their current prices EV6 GT AU$105k & EV9 is north of AU$140k.
Tesla sell well here because of their name & they are also expensive, we get a lot of EV options coming out of China, ie: MG, BYD, GWM & LDV we also get Cupra from Spain as well as most Euro brands like Polestar.
IMO for countries the size of Australia & the US with lots of wide open spaces of nothing it makes more sense to sell & further develop Hybrid (not plug in) cars & SUV’s & Utes like Toyota has done with Corolla, Camry, RV4 & CHR.
My daughter bought a 2023 Kia Niro last year & after a year of ownership it cost virtually nothing to run, it averages about 4litres/100kms.
Now imagine a Hybrid 3.5V6 Performance car say for K5 or 2nd Generation Stinger I think vehicles like this will sell really well in OZ & the US.

That statement is loaded. How many hours of "discussion" on a topic that's been argued to death over the past 20 years were you trolling for?

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...

Unfortunately changing an existing market that people rely on so heavily will take longer than a decade or two, and really needed to be started a long while back when the first global warming research was being published (and oil companies started their now exposed gaslighting campaign). This involved upgrades to our power grid, rethinking of our housing to allow everyone with a car charging capabilities, research into lithium battery alternatives and refining that tech to use fewer rare earth materials, infrastructure for recycling of those batteries to recapture/reuse those rare elements, etc. On top of all this, oil isn't as readily available from the ground and many currently productive wells will be running dry in the coming years. The cost to sustain the status quo will dwarf the nominal investment that could have been strategically made long before this crescendos into a crisis.

In short - people are short sighted and self interested. Hopefully I'm gone before all the various things we're doing to sabotage our existing come to a head. There's seems to be no willingness for self preservation.
