The rear driver side tire of my '21 Stinger got punctured by a screwdriver that was on the road. It went through the upper sidewall and through the thread. I got my Stinger a month ago (Feb 6th) and have driven it for 2300KMs (1430 miles). I'm not sure how much wear there is already on the tires so I'm curious if replacing only one tire is a bad idea. Could this possibly damage the AWD system overtime?

Here's a photo. Also, I can't seem to find the exact same tire online in my area.

with that low miles it won't matter unless you've been drifting/doing burnouts all of those miles :) .

That sucks!... Canadian Tire... Or KalTire they will probably have to order it in for you

If its the PS4, I think its an OEM tire, the PS4S is the same thing but just the consumer version.

That is not accurate. The PS4 replaced the PS3 tire and is the “stock” tire for RWD and some AWD Stingers.

The PS4S tire replaced the Michelin Super Sport tires and it is a higher performing tire than the PS4. No factory Stingers come with PS4S tires stock. The dealer may put them on but they shouldn’t come from the factory that way.

I just replaced my rear stock PS4 tires with PS4S tires and there is a significant difference in warm weather traction.

It would be fine for the OP to replace the one PS4 tire with a new one. However, the PS4S has a different tread pattern so you would not want one tire to be different. You can find the PS4 tires on tire rack.

Yes, I have the PS4. So I could replace it with a PS4S? I'm concern of something going wrong in the future due to not having exact same tires.

Thanks for correcting!

No, I didn't realize it was a different tread pattern. Don't do that.

Holy crap!? Lol!!! That is a pic and a half. Well, at least you survived! :p

As already said, it is not advised to match different tire types. The PS4S should only go on in pairs. But that said, aside from promoting uneven tread wear, I bet you'd never experience anything untoward in the handling/safety end of things by replacing that skewered PS4 with a PS4S. The tread pattern looks the same to me, so any differences are probably minimal in the sipes? PS4 is waaay more expensive: https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tire...S4SXL&ef_id=X6LlkAAABEdkEShf:20210319161230:s

Limited stock; 10K miles less treadlife, and ONE PS4 costs 71% as much as a pair of PS4S. Seems like a no-brainer to me. :p

(edit to add: hovering over the two tread patterns, the PS4S is the same, only more aggressive.)

Ha I think I saw the same post on reddit this morning. This is what I replied on there:

Typically when the sidewall is punctured the tire will need to be replaced. I hit a pothole and it literally burst the side wall on my tire I had to replace it and I just did the one. I was probably around 4k miles. Initially it pulled a little more to one side when launching but now it's fine and that was the only thing I noticed replacing only one tire.

I was wrong on the tread pattern but there are still differences. I believe the compound is different. I just took a picture of my front PS4 tires and my rear PS4S tires. They are similar if not the same except for the differences in wear. However, they do have significant traction differences so I definitely wouldn’t mix and match on the same axle.

Shit I ended up having the same thing happen to me and I could only find a PS4S so I put it on. Things seem to be fine I put it on probably about 4k miles ago. Would you recommend changing out the stock PS4 at this point?

If you are looking for the absolute best setup then I would have matching tires at least on each axle. Now that is only if you are trying to eek out hundredths of a second at the track.

In reality you might experience more wear on one side or slightly unusual grip in certain circumstances. However, if the price difference is significant and your only option is to get a slightly mismatched tire on one wheel then it probably won’t be dangerous for normal driving or anything like that.

Ideally though, EVERYONE should replace their PS4 tires with PS4S tires at all 4 corners when the stock tires are in need of being replaced.

The PS4S tires are a superior tire for performance and actually cost. They just might wear slightly faster than the PS4 tires.

Cool makes sense thanks! I'll definitely be upgrading all tires to PS4S when the time comes.

When you look at the more aggressive PS4S (same tread pattern otherwise), you can tell that long before halfway worn, the PS4 and PS4S would be identical tread pattern-wise: all the aggressive difference in the PS4S is in the first few thousands miles of wear. So, by now you have identical tread patterns. Now, compound, that's a different story. But in street driving, even "spirited" driving, having one tire with a bit more gription than the other is only going to reduce overall gription by a very small amount. Again, one of these is likely going to wear faster than the other. And contrary to @Travis Wills , I think that the PS4S has longer wear, if either of them does - why would the tire with the longer treadlife warranty wear faster? Right now, it's looking like my PS4S rears are going to be gone right around the 15K miles (reduced treadlife) warranty, or about the same as I got out of the OE PS4 rears (even though 3/4 full treadlife only sounds a bit impressive because the PS4 only has a 20K treadlife warranty for the rears).

I haven’t had my PS4S tires long enough to be able to tell about tread life. However, they just feel softer when I pressed into them when I got them. I stuck a quarter in them to check initial tread depth. The quarter stayed upright in the tread just by pressing it slightly into the tire. I couldn’t get the quarter to do the same in the front PS4 tires.
