Possessed Power Liftgate

My Power Liftgate tends to want to do it's own thing on occasion. For instance, when I press the button on the hatch it starts to open and then halfway when I already have my head in there it decides to change direction and close. Other times when the hatch is closed and I press the button I can hear the lock/release motor make it's usual noise but then nothing happens. If I push the button on the hatch a second time it then opens. These examples don't happen often but I was wondering if anyone else has these issues and if there is actually something wrong with the system.

I know this sounds weird, but once it is in the fully open position, try manually closing it, then give it a moment to latch before trying to use the button again. That should reset the position. Might help.
Another thing you could do which might help is to open the liftgate to the fully open position, then either let it sit open for a long time until it has to be manually closed, or disconnect the battery ground in the trunk for a second.
If these things don't help...

There's a calibration for it. Open it and position it manually where you want it. Hold the close button for more than 3 seconds. Close the gate after hearing the buzzer sound.

How to reset the power liftgate

If the battery has been discharged or disconnected, or if the related fuse has been replaced or disconnected, for the power liftgate to operate normally, reset the power liftgate as follows:

1.Push the P(Parking) button.

2. While Pressing the liftgate close button, press the liftgate handle switch for more than 3 seconds. (the chime will sound)

3. Close the liftgate manually.

If the power liftgate does not work properly after the above procedure, have the system checked by an authorized Kia dealer.

I’ve got the same issue working fine until i tried to fit a box inside which was slightly too big and stopped it from closing, tried the reset procedure and nothing seems to work! Will only open about a quarter of the way then have to manually lift and close it
