I've been toying with either purchasing new black wheels or getting my current 19 OEM's painted or powder coated . I actually like the wheel but much prefer it in black vs stock . To get a sense of the look I purchased the "Wheel kit " from Plasti Dip ...............last week before heading down to the Stinger meet in Woodinville I spent a few hours cleaning prepping , masking and spraying all 4 wheels , I finished two with the Plasti dip "glossifier" and left them overnight to dry ...............the next day I decided the "glossified" look was a bit blingy ( for me ) ..............the claim that the "dip" can be peeled off was now the issue for me..............short story it is completely removeable , and relatively easy and quick . Here is a shot of a front wheel after 500 kms and a quick rinse , another positive note about this product is they can be finished with tire gloss , so no overspray issues when you're washing and finishing your wheels .................I'll report back every month on how they are holding up ................if this continues to satisfy I dont feel the need to spend the extra $$ for what is essentially just a visual mod . I'll post up some total car shots when I wash her in the next day ordipped.webp two

Thanks for the thread, I'll be interested to see how they hold up after a week or two. Black wheels look great on white cars.

I watch the Dip Your Car vids on youtube, and always wanted to try it on my truck, but was too chicken. Wheels would be a good compromise if they hold up relatively well.

Is the wheel kit in rattle cans or do you need a sprayer?

An alternative to Plastidip is HaloEFX - it's more advanced (in my opinion) than Plastidip- it's chemical resistant, can be clearcoated, buffed and polished, and STILL peels off the same way that Plastidip does.

Sadly, it's much harder to get hold of (particular in spray cans in colours other than black) in Australia, but it should be quite readily available in the US.

rattles cans , I believe it was 4 black 2 glossifier 1L of wheel cleaner , tire spray for easy release of the overspray and some MF towels ...................the application technique is CRITICAL ! , 4-5 " away max , maintaining a wet edge and working slowly ..............the fill is quite amazing it looks solid and half way between flat and semi gloss , also very easy to touch up with solvent to feather out the area prior to another coat ..............rather pleasurable !

Brother Billy ! Lets do it !! I'm sure the next 4 wheels can be even better ! ...............I saw a neat vid on wrapping a wheel , we should try it on yours too ??

That car is black from the factory (it's the WRX STI in my signature). That is HaloEFX, sprayed with a gun in a garage. It is a satin finish, no clear over top.
Congrats on being chosen as a moderator, you'll wear it well.

Here's my old girl bought her new in 2004 it's in the rare aqua colour an unpopular colour for the WRX. And it had to be a wagon according to my wife. Work upgrades by MRT. About 195kw.

I’ve used Plastidip in the past with good success and it does hold up well, even in winter conditions.

Just tried Superwrap for the first time on a friends camaro. Very happy with the quality of the product and the result. This is my new favourite and the colour selection and finishes they have are exceptional!

It’s a much nicer more realistic gloss finish than I’ve ever been able to achieve with Plastidip. They have the standard matte finishes as well.

I think a metallic bronze would look fantastic on your white Stinger:

Superwrap | Bronze | High Gloss Sprayable Vinyl Wrap

Superwrap , thanks I'll look that up , I did see a vid of a BMW wheel being wrapped with 3m and it looks great , I may experiment with that and I'll check out Superwrap .....EDIT: Wow 10 coats required with SW , how many cans per wheel to get a proper finish ??
Thanks again

I was thinking about a metallic bronze dip for at least my winter wheels, because "why not."
Hey , this stuff peels off so easily and its relatively inexpensive , give it a go , its really quite enjoyable to do and quite transformational to the look of not only the wheel but the whole car .....................:thumbup::)

I did black plastidip the badges on my Mustang because it was between either a can of dip I had in the garage (paid for, therefore a free mod), or pay like 150 or something stupid for actual black badges. I was pleased enough with the outcome. I might even black dip the GT on the back on my Stinger since the new badges I put on are black, no chrome.

Yes, it's more coats but worth it. 6 cans for 4 19" wheels, plus 1 can of top coat (basically a high gloss finish).

If I were winter driving my Stinger i'd totally rock this bronze on the stock wheels with winter tires. Go for it! It protects the finish of your wheel from road salt and small chips as well.

I plastidipped my work truck wheels. Never washed the thing. Five years later I traded it to KIA for my stinger with the same plastidip on the wheels - no chips and only surface scratches. I was impressed with the stuff

Is this superwrap actually good? I’ve heard some mixed reviews. If anyone has any pictures can you please post em’.
