OMG $2000 for a front windshield

Well guys,

Title says it all.... I have a crack that has spread do to a crap window chip repair and decided to call my Kia Dealership up here in Canada and a price... I called a couple of glass shops as well to price check and they were sick to hear that number.. comments i had were "that is the price you would pay for a RV windshield" and "A Range Rover windshield doesn't cost that much".. Needless to say i am super pissed with Kia and I am wondering if anyone else has priced a windshield out and what was the cost you were Quoted...

This is a Stinger not a FN Lamborghini..

I called my local glass shop before I got insurance, to see what the price was for purchasing a new windshield - somebody mentioned in another thread that Kia might be the only source initially. I've never had glass insurance on previous vehicles, and always bought new windshields as needed.

She said she had different windshield SKU listings depending on car options, but no prices for them as the glass was not yet available from aftermarket suppliers - Kia would be the only source for now. Her recommendation - get glass insurance for the first year, then check back with her at the next renewal and see where things were at.

So I have glass coverage on the car, at least for now. Calgary is windshield replacement central because of flying rocks and debris due to both truck traffic and remaining winter road gravel. Spring is the worst, while they are still cleaning up the roads.

Sorry to hear about the breakage - hopefully it's not too bad visually while you ride it out ...

It's available, but is optional and can be an expensive add-on. Due to the conditions I mentioned above, windshields in our neck of the woods don't look forward to a long and happy lifetime - so insurance companies price the coverage accordingly ...

Yeah, most of today’s high end cars windscreen cost that much, lots tech in them. Buddy’s infinity is was $2500 to replace, it’s not a “KIA” thing. It sucks for us Canadians since they put so much rocks down on our roads.

Yeah I agree it's definitely not a KIA thing. BMW windscreens also cost that much as well.

I envision, due to the angle of the crack it will span from the lower left corner all the way to the upper right side unless it finds another path....

The Crack right now is in my View range... I had to raise my seat to look over it

Well i have learned my lesson on a Brand new/Released vehicle to always ask for window insurance.

As for the Cost i don`t blame "KIA" I Question the Markup from the dealership... something we may never know.

Also for a vehicle that costs only $64 for a Oil Change (includes filter and 7-8 Liters of oil)... I guess you win some and you lose some.. I might be doing my own break pads when the time comes...

I had to replace the windshield on my Cadenza. It was over $1,500.

I don't off the top of my head but if you own a stinger it should be in the bottom passenger side corner

Apparently it's bad luck to comment on windshield threads - picked up a crack last night from a thrown rock on the highway ... It's on the far right, and relatively short for now, so hopefully I can get away with a repair.

A lot of tech in these windshields nowadays. My friend had to pay a couple of grand for his Range Rover windshield.

Had it repaired this morning before it grew any longer. I got there when they first opened at 8 AM - there were already five cars in front of me needing crack repairs as well, and they kept coming. The windshield guy didn't hold out a lot of hope for it because of the location - but we'll see. It was only 20 bucks for the repair, and they stop drilled the end - we'll see if it takes off from there, and if so what area it extends to.

Only a matter of time before it happens, unfortunately, in this area - especially in the Spring, and with a relatively low to the ground car. My other car the windshield got pasted by by a rock the day after I last had it replaced. I've been driving with that crack for three years - fortunately it's 'only' $350 to replace that one (with rain sensor, no HUD).

The windshield is by St. Gobain, by the way - my other car was PPG (now PGW). Not sure if KIA used multiple suppliers - anybody else have a different MFG? The details are on the bottom passenger side corner.

i feel for you. until the stinger becomes more popular, parts like the windshield will be at a premium. my oldest brother had an aero coupe monte carlo and an aero coupe grand prix. those sloped back windows were 4000!!!!!! had a friend who worked for the insurance industry and he would call when he had one of these cars, i would purchase the back windows. years later, my brother sells the cars for dirt cheap, but the windows went up in value by 25% scooooooore!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
