I'm doing my 3rd oil change since I bought my Kia stinger 2 years ago years ago it is a 3.3 TTI wanted to know if if I go to take 5 oil change They are quite prevalent. In the area of Tennessee that I live in I'm going to put Castor oil GTX magnetic 5W30 And a new filter which I've picked up at

Dude, do not take your semi expensive Stinger to Take 5 oil change. Either take it somewhere reputable or do it yourself.

So Take 5 is a jiffy lube competitor. Must be a local thing as i've never heard of them before. Now the OP's post makes a bit more sense. But I still have no idea what magnetic oil is. Something gm uses in the magnetorheological dampers? Why would you want that in your engine...

+1 for DIY oil changes.

Nah partner, he's referring to this: Motor Oil Brand | Best Engine Oil | Take 5 Oil Change

"Castrol Magnatec"

I let Kia service put in whatever oil they use: never asked and never had any reason to wonder aside from idle curiosity. I'm at Kia right now, as my oil gets changed at c. 49K miles. Why would you need to go to an oil change chain?

Take 5 Oil is fine - I understand the convenience and it is cost saving. I knew people that worked at a local one and it is actually half way legit. I would not take it there for anything but an oil/filter change. I take my stinger, as well as my 2019 Audi S6 for quick oil changes there and my old m3 and old s4. Never had an issue. Maintenance per schedule I take to dealer.

I'm pretty sure Kia uses a synthetic blend (part synthetic, part conventional) which I stay far away from. Full synthetic only for my girl

no they use full synth at the dealer or should for sure , not that i would ever go there for an oil change, at least the dealers in my area .

My particular dealer sends me "coupons" for oil change packages. 3 synthetic blend oil changes for whatever price. It may depend on the particular dealer. I have no expectation that Kia would use a different oil for the stinger, but I certainly could be wrong! Just something to look out for, for those who go to the dealer. I will always recommend DIY

This may be a silly question, but performing the oil changes yourself does not void the warranty, correct? Of course with the assumption of using the correct oil and no problems arise as a result of doing it yourself. I'm sure a sketchy dealer could try to pull something if an issue did come up that can be associated with performing your own oil change.

Yes, that's a silly question. And if you have to ask it, I'd recommend you NOT change your own oil.

You can change your own oil, just make sure you save receipts for the oil and filters and document the changes (mileage, date, etc.).

Thanks for the feedback. Having the ability to change oil and knowing what KIA is going to void aren't mutually inclusive. You received a couple of "Likes" for it though, so I'm sure your day is made.

Fair enough, I get you point. Question though: Why would Kia deny a person a warrant claim for properly changing their oil?

I couldn't think of any myself. I am new to the KIA world, as well as a new car in general, so I just wanted to verify after reading many painful threads on various topics. It just seems like some dealers make the 10 year, 100K warranty more painful.

the only way they could deny a claim for no oil changes is if you did not document them or just did not do it .
