Oil additives? (EX Tribotex)

Snake oil! Every one of them! Haha

Your probably right, however the results don't lie. Our 2012 sienna had zero oil, it was all burnt up. Yet we checked the engine and nothing was scratched. It must have had some sort of coating that took the blunt of the damage. It's not like it gives me 20 horsepower, a sticker is better in that situation.

A modern engine lubricated with a high quality modern oil should not need any additional additives. If it makes you feel better, then sure, go ahead and run it.

The idea of "tiny metals suspended in oil in a can/syringe/pellet" isn't really new. Back in the day, ProLong or Restore whoever it was used to drain the oil out of a sports car in their infomercials and then beat the hell out of it. Did the engines keep working because the product left some coating on the engine? Or did the engines keep working because modern oil additive packs are that good at providing lasting protection? It seems like TriboTEX probably does what it says on the tin, just up to you if it's worth the price of admission.

Personally, in my purely anecdotal experience, the engines almost ALWAYS (250k+ mile GM 3800s, 250k+ mile Chrysler Magnum 5.9, 180k mi Nissan VQ, 300k mi GM truck LS, etc.) outlast the rest of the car/powertrain so I haven't found any additive worth the cost.

In fact it stopped one of our cars from destroying the engine when the coolant failed.

lol.. would love to see your data showing how this product saved your engine.

Simple observations. Coolant failed, oil got all burnt up. Still somehow made it home. Checked cylinders, pistons, rings. Everything the same as it was 500 miles before the incident. Cylinder walls where a bit darker, probably due to the increased temps. That sienna is still running, refuses to die.

Back in my Honda days I knew a guy who intentionally drained all his oil in his CRX and drove to work and back a few times because reasons. To my knowledge he didn't have any additives and that POS still survived longer than it should have.

Point is, it's hard to verify the claims of products like these unless you do some sort of controlled test.

Yep and a controlled test would be time consuming and probably expensive. That company has some tests on their site, one is even a peer review journal. Also they are nominated for a Air Force grant. Yet that doesn't prove that it would work for the stinger.

Look at his tie! If he invented such technology than his days are counted. He or will die in an accident or if he is very lucky will be purchased by some big company to shelf that technology.
Planned obsolesce is the key to the revenue growth.

The government indeed supported them you can find if you google "tribotex nsf" or "tribotex nasa" or "tribotex air force"
