i have 17k on my GT1 and I have some serious brake dust build up and it's starting to shake in pretty much every situation. My pads still have 50% left. I'm trying to figure out what rotors i should get. OEM or go with aftermarket. Also should i go solid or should i get them slotted, drilled, or both?

Also, if i were to pair them with new pads does anyone have any recommendations? I heard with the slotted you get a ton more brake dust thrown on the side of the panel.

Trying to figure out whats the best combo to get and ideally not end up getting the brake dust build up as quickly as i have. I know it's inevitable but has anyone been able to find a combo that eliminates the build up or at least put it off for longer than the OEM rotors & pads?

Let me know. Im up for any ideas/recommendations. I have a 21' GT1 RWD

first recommendation is to clean your wheels weekly no matter what you run with. I vote for solid rotors. the oem rotors are good. but aftermarket options are less expensive. at 50 percent pad wear I'd be changing mine if the shudder has crept in. if the oem rotors are smoothed down and still have a lot of wear left I will keep them on. the way I brake I don't need to bed new pads, just gently wear them in, like I did when the car was brand new.

Unless you've driven your car hard in those 17k miles, it's unlikely your stock rotors are worn enough to need replacement. The common complaints , like too much dust or shaking while braking at speed are all related to the brake pads, regardless of what some dealer service dept might tell you. Changing rotors to try to fix any of those issues is pointless exercise.

That said, some folks just like the racy looks of drilled and/or slotted rotors. And there is nothing wrong with that. Just don't go into it thinking you're getting any appreciable performance benefit, because you're not. In fact, there are inherent structural compromises any time a solid rotor is perforated, which introduces discontinuities in the wearing surfaces and will result in thermal gradients and stress risers. Will that matter in normal street driving? Highly unlikely. That's why folks have run them for yrs on their car with no problems.

If you do decide on drilled rotors, at least pick ones that are properly patterned by folks that understand how it should be done. I've seen too many with holes that line up circumferentially, which quickly wear concentric grooves on the rotor. That is just plain f'ing dumb. Also, any slotting should not extend to anywhere near the edges of the rotor.

For me, I'd rather stay with solid rotors. We've run them on track days that got them cooked up pretty hot, enough to stress crack poorly done drilled and slotted rotors. What works right looks right. Not the other around.

I agree with Volqfy. My prefence for street rotors is solid first, slotted second and drilled third. For track, it would be solid first and slotted second (and not drilled).

I’m using Powerstop Z26 pads. There is hardly any dusting (if any) and stopping performance is good.

I went with EBC red stuff and paired them with their rotors as well. I’ve had them on maybe 4k miles. They’ve been solid. I don’t track but have good stopping power.
They’re not noisy either.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
Hey DustinCheeks,

I agree with them, go for a solid aftermarket rotor. I would consider drilled or slotted rotors with a large budget and track days every weekend.

For somebody like me who dailies my car and takes it on some twisty backroads once or twice a week, I have had zero issues or complaints with solid rotors.

I would highly suggest checking out the Stoptech Performance Premium Rotors that we offer for sale at the K8 Stinger Store to replace your OEM rotors.

Let me know if you have any other questions, and feel free to reach out to me for a discount on your orders through us!

From everything I've seen and read, your rotors are probably not the problem.
Try a new set of pads, and have the rotors cleaned or even turned.
Kia and Hyundai have this problem, but refuse to change their pad supplier or design.
They might/should replace your rotors under warranty, so maybe go back to the dealer and try that first.
Definitely replace your front pads though, and not with OEM.

My 19' Stinger GT1 with 47k+ miles on the original brakes has shuddered for quite some time and I have finally come to a place where it is annoying enough to address it. I suspect my rotors are fine but have had trouble finding a shop that will turn them for me, so I may just buy some new ones for the new pads.
