I lucked out and found a scorpion in the color I was looking for. Actually I had written off the stinger, but my wife sent me the tip. Turns out this dealer is using a nasty trick to inflate the cost of the car over MSRP because...reasons.

I did like the car, I tried to meet them and reach out and make concessions, and I even offered to put 20 grand down. Not good enough. Sales manager tells me after I ask my sales guy about the discrepancy between MSRP and their paperwork that it's a super rare car. Only 250 made. Other dealers are marking up by 10k and he can't sell it for 'just' MSRP.

I walked. This is the third strike against Kia / Hyundai / Genesis for me. 3 different dealers. 3 different sets of shenanigans. I'm out. It's a great car I have no doubt. I've driven 4 of them now, but the dealers are just making it impossible for me. To anybody who has one, I truly hope you enjoy it and it works for you. It's not for me. Thanks and peace. :)

My recent Stinger purchase ('21 GT) had a $3500 markup on the sticker. I chewed it out completely and then some. About $11k from their laughable first price written down between price & trade value concessions. They just do it for the occasional idiot who signs on the dotted line right away I suppose. Why not try? I told them what I was willing to pay and ended up $1k over that. But they came down $11k vs my $1k.

Demand is not high for cars right now, it's all SUVs. They can and will get the markup on Sorentos and Tellurides (at least around here in southeastern PA). That said, a Scorpion may actually fetch the markup. Not sure what happened with your other experiences.

I personally hate mark ups. But if the dealers have a customers willing to pay more than msrp, i can't blame them for doing that. I would do THE SAME. I am a huge believer in free market.

Exactly. The answer to the age old question "How much is it worth?" is "Whatever someone is willing to pay".
