This is a thread for the ¼ mile enthusiast to talk ¼ mile improvements and track events.

This is a place where you can share your experiences based on the ¼ mile times you had from modifying your Stinger and what mods you consider the most valuable for the Stinger in ¼ mile.

Feel free to post your times here for comparison. If you want your time posted on the official ¼ mile list then post the time on the Official ¼ thread.

We can also discuss tips/tricks to improve your ¼ mile. Topics like Launch control, tire PSI, tires/wheel set ups, suspension set ups, tunes and etc….

I been able to get my Stinger from a 13.9 I ran stock to 11.9 with minimal mods.

Just last year I ran at the track I ran a 12.5 was my best time. I only had JB4 (Map 2 with old firmware), SSR downpipes, muffler deletes with DIY intakes.

Earlier this year I was able to run an astonishing 11.9 ¼ time. The only changes made were using some E30 fuel mix, using launch control, lowering the psi on my tires and using Map 5 on the JB4. This was accomplished on a full weight Stinger.

From my experience with the Stinger these are the following mods in order to improve your ¼ times. (Now this subjective based on the individual, this is my personal opinion from my experience with the Stinger)

1. JB4 – This is an incredible box of wires. This alone has the potential to drop a full second off your ¼ mile time and do so at a very easy and cost effective way. The price $470 and about 20-60 minutes install time this is by the far the best bang for your buck mod to get for the Stinger. It has the option to run Water Meth Injection which can be a changer from doing back to back runs at the track. We will discuss WMI later in more detail. Now in place of the JB4 you could get an ECU tune. This would a more expensive alternative usually between $950-$1250 not including the down time of having to ship your ECU. A spare ECU is $1000, so it’s not cheap. That being said there are currently 2 ECU tunes on the market for the Stinger. Pressertech and Tork. Tim aka TonkaBob holds the #1 spot on the ¼ mile list and he has a Tork Stage 2 tune. There are not a lot of people with ECU tunes so it’s hard to have a solid review on ECU tunes.

2. Intakes – There are many intake options for the Stinger. The OEM intake system for the Stinger is very restrictive. This is a definitely one of the first mods to do to improve your 0-60 time and ¼ mile time. I personally have the Agency Power intakes and love them. The tubing is made of plastic so in theory better at handling heat soak. The AEM are also all plastic.

3. Oil Cath Cans – In my opinion this a must do mod, especially if you plan on tracking your car. Our engine being direct injected no fuel passes thru the intake valves. Over time this can create carbon build up and make your engine run less efficient. The OCC traps oil vapors from going into your engine/intake system. This is a relative cheap mod that will prolong the life of your engine.

4. Wheels/Tires – This really can go anywhere on the list. If you are RWD then this could go higher on your list. A set of aftermarket wheels will allow you put wider tires on your car. This will improve traction, this is based on the assumption that you get wider rims and offset to fit your car properly. Traction is everything at the track, you can live and die by traction. Tires are a big factor as well, getting the proper compound and size. I personally recommend some high performance summer tires. Then on the winter you can run your factory wheels, this is if you are affected by winter where you live. This is more important if you are rear wheel drive.

5. Secondary Downpipes/Midpipes – These will remove the secondary cats on the stinger. This will improve acceleration on the ¼ mile. I improved .2 seconds when adding downpipes. This could vary from Stinger to Stinger. Your options here are SSR/ARK/Jun BL. I personally own the SSR downpipes.

6. Intercooler – This will allow for you to reduce your IAT temps. Although to see the biggest benefit from intercooler you would need a tune. This would improve your times to be more consistent in the ¼ mile. This will greatly help with engine heat soak. When I had my intercooler I notice a drop of about 20 degrees on IAT temps and my top end power be more consistent. My car pulled stronger when WOT. This is even more beneficial and I would move to number 3 if you were in a hot state like California, Florida, and Texas etc.…

7. Cat back Exhaust – There are many options for cat back exhaust. For many people this is one of their first mod’s due for the ease of install and the changing the sound of your vehicle. This seems to be a very popular mod for all car enthusiast to improve the sound of their car. I personally don’t have a cat back exhaust, I only have the SSR muffler deletes.

8. Blow Off Vales – This mod upgrades the stock plastic BOV to high quality aluminum ones. There are many options for the Stinger. This will help improve you holding boost better when increasing the boost pressure. Although there is no data to prove that this is true over the stock ones but it has been proven on other platforms. This is also a safety net to make sure your oem never fail especially if heavily modified.

9. WMI – Water methanol Injection from BMS. This mods is not for everyone. This will allow you to run more boost and make more power. This will also allow you to run more consistent back to back runs at the track. Not everyone likes the Idea of WMI but it is extremely effective at lowering IAT temps. Honestly this can be anywhere on the list but I feel like it’s not a common mod like the other ones listed before. This mod depends on the level of commitment you have to track your car.

10. Lowering springs – This allows for a lower center of gravity and improved acceleration due to a stiffer suspension. It make the effect of the transfer of weight less noticeable when launching your car aggressively. It also improves handling when turning. This a must do mod if you plan on doing autocross and Track course events.

11. Rear Sway bar – It improves handling and turning. It reduces body roll but there is not data to prove that this will help your straight line power. This is also a must do mod if you plan on doing auto cross and Track course events.

There are other way to improve your ¼ times without having to mod your car.

These are some tips/tricks.

1. Fuel – This is very effective way especially if you own a JB4. This would allow you to run Map 5 or 7 and in return it would increase your horsepower. I usually run E30 mix, this means 30 % E85 fuel mix with your premium gas. In my area we have 93 octane, so I mix E85 with that. You also have the option of using octane booster such as Boostane and Torko to increase your octane. You can use race fuel as well if it is available to you, although it is more expensive than the other methods mentioned.

2. Weight Reduction – Reducing weight can help improve you ¼ mile times. They say 100 pound can improve your time by .1. If possible remove all the junk on your cars and your spare tire. If you want to take a step further you can remove your rear seats. There are other ways that you can reduce your weight but they will cost money such a carbon fiber hood, trunk, and other components.

3. Tire PSI – A lot of times this is overlooked. Depending on the tire you have you want to make sure you have the proper psi on the tire. You don’t want them too high or too low. You need to find that sweet spot for better traction at the track.

4. Launch Control – Using launch control can improve your time at the track and help you on better launching your car. There are numerous ways to launch your car but if you are not experienced this is the best method.

5. Make sure your AC is off and your windows are rolled up. This could make your slower in a ¼ mile run.

There are more ways to improve your ¼ mile times. Feel free to ask questions, provide your input and get involved in the discussion.

Below is the current ¼ Track times for reference. (If you want your time to be posted on the Official ¼ list you need to post your time on the official ¼ mile thread, this is used for reference only based on the discussion to improve your ¼ mile times)

Stay tuned I will be installing WMI in my car in the next week or so. I will have a DIY install video for those interested. I will also be getting Dyno runs soon. I will be making runs on different maps of the JB4 to see the power difference. I will be going to the track on June 1 if weather permits. I will then do runs with WMI and without WMI to see the difference in performance. This will also be an opportunity to try new launching methods. I got an autocross even as well in mid-June. I will be taking the Stinger to see how it performs in taking tight turns. My next mods will probably be the rear sway bar and lowering springs. The reason I will be doing these so I can attend some autocross events and measure the difference in performance that they provide in comparison to stock.

I hope to get my on track this spring. Im adding intakes next week - so hopefully Map 2 + intakes would net me a mid 12 car. Likely will be getting a intercooler next year and to me an intercooler should #3 before Catback or even downpipes. It helps the engine run safer and cooler along with the turbos. Plus, not only air temps, but air flow in the higher RPMs. As you stated the extra pull in the higher RPMs is no mystery.

There was a world of difference when I upgraded my Mustang Eco with one but you also have to consider the eco mustang stock intercooler was a POS.

you ran a 13.9 stock? Did you take off one of the turbos? Put a brick under the throttle? Drag strip on Mount Everest?

Lol is 13.9 bad? I went to the track for the first time a week after I bought the car. It was summer time really hot about 90 degrees and really humid. At the time I was running 87 octane gas so not premium and the car was not broken in. I also did not use launch control or stability/track control off. On top of that I had been driving for 3 hours prior to going to the track. Not sure what other have gotten stock but that's what I got. I only did one run as well. I believe at the time I didn't know about sport mode lol, it was in comfort mode by default.

What did you get stock?

Oh - with 87 the ECU pulls timing from the engine so you don't detonate.

I agree. I noted that the intercooler could be #3. I agree especially if you are on a state where temps are hot all year round. Our intercooler on the Stinger is pretty small. Yes I noticed a difference when I did my intercooler not only on IAT temps but on WOT pulls on top end.

I assume that a Stock Stinger can be anywhere from 12.9 to 13.5 on the 1/4 depending on conditions and launch. I assume that all the factors I mentioned had something to do on lowering my time.

I believe Tork motorsports made a video of the Stock intercooler while doing pulls on the dyno and he used like a thermal to show the heat soak. It was pretty cool.

ohhh I bet the 87 octane, hot temps, and no launch control did it. Mid 13s would be for those running in the absolute worst conditions.

I am sure the fuel killed my performance in combination with other factors as well.

This is especially true with the JB4, fuel makes a day and night difference.

This was a Stock AWD Stinger GT that ran on the track the day I got the 11.9 run and She got a 13.6.

This day was about 60 degrees so temps were not bad. I am not sure if she was running 93 octane thou.

2018 awd gt limited (gt2) only k&n cold air intake with borla exhaust *edit: 87 octane* about 175 ft altitude around 65*F and like to note it was my first time at a drag strip... my times got worst prolly due to heat

The ECU on a stock stinger like most Turbo cars will pull timing and boost on 87 octane. Unrelated, that Subaru had no idea how to drive a manual on that track lol. In real world setting thats why I like my AWD Stinger - already witnessed one STI stall out on the side of me.

LOL everyone was talking about that Subaru that day.

The guy was really lost.

I wish I had videos of the EVO 9 and the guy driving it. He was getting high 14's

Plus comfort mode alone adds .4. Did that one by mistake once. Those comfort shifts are so slow!

I can understand why someone would want to run 87 if they have a road trip of something, but why in the world would you spend the time and money going to a drag strip running 87 octane???

Agree.

My case the wife filled with 87 when we first got the car. She is aware now to only pump premium 93 octane.

I can't speak for others, but maybe some people are just not aware of the performance gains in running premium gas and want to save money on gas.

I seen a lot of people go to the track just for fun and have no car knowledge or very limited car knowledge.

I'm just wondering who the first person is going to be that takes a slight risk and runs without air filters at the track ;)

Won't do anything unless you make a few runs with the filter off. I did this on the dyno wth stock air box vs no airbox no filter and the back to back runs where the same.

I mean on a different note, have you seen the you tube video of the lady with a Tesla at a gas station pumping gas on her car?

Anything is possible.

It is safe to say that most people on this forum have some knowledge about cars or are trying to educate themselves about the Stinger. You know the thousands of Stinger owners that don't have any car knowledge and are not on this forum?

I had a friend once on his boosted Honda del Sol take off the turbo air filter at the track because he claimed/believed that he would gain some HP. Ironically enough he blew his engine on his second pass. He was revving the car aggressively before he took off. The piston came off the bottom of the oil pan. Now this happened because he was running an aftermarket turbo kit on a stock engine with no ECU tune at all or tuning device. He actually knows about car's, but I don't know what was going thru is mind.

I have a new question that hasnt been really discussed for drag newbs...

I read a post about the dyno and brought to my attention pushing the fuel pedal all the way down is actually the kickdown... while dragging do u use LC and drag all the way down with the "kickdown" or its better to push it to the hard spot just before?

When you are at the dead strip yes you should use launch control and yes you can just smash the gas pedal down.

That is different that being on a dyno.
