Looking to Buy 2019 GT2 - Any advice appreciated

how would I go about doing this? Talk about this with the dealer?

Or when I do the buyout just do it online on the Kia Financing website so that I don’t have anything to do with the dealership anymore?

If you are financing it my bank wanted the lease buyout paperwork. I had to call Kia and they will email you the packet within 24 hours of the call.

I bought my 19 GT2 for $43K out the door in January at the Kia dealership in Ontario, CA for cash. I did not get stuck with unnecessary add ons or service contracts, etc. We did opt for the extended warranty, but afterward decided it was not a good deal for us and I got a refund after a few months. The extended warranty was on top of the $43K. I figure we saved about $12K off MSRP and am happy with the deal we made. Our previous car was totalled so we were anxious to find a replacement fairly quickly and the other local dealers were not players at the price we received in Ontario. It sounds like you are negotiating an even better deal, so I think you should feel pretty good about the price you are working on. The lease option seems to be especially good, if the numbers pan out, but even the financed price looks like a bargain from where I sit. Good luck going forward.

If you haven't already done so, I'd recommend reading through the "What did you pay for your Kia Stinger?" thread. It's massive, so maybe just read through the last few months worth of posts which will be the most relevant as things do change over time.

That thread really helped me set my expectations on pricing. Initially I didn't believe some of the numbers people were posting there, but it helped me to be patient and push back on initial offers until it was more in line with the going price in that thread.

Here's my post in there with full detailed numbers fwiw. This was for my GT2 RWD that I picked up late last year in California (SF Bay Area).

Thank you, actually looking at your figures now, I think you're the closest to my situation that I've seen. I got my lease breakdown today and and taxes and fees seemed a little high to me. What was your lease incentive cash you were offered when you leased? The Cap Cost reduction of 8643.56 is after taxes and fees were taken from your lease cash amount right?

Correct. My lease cash was $11,500. Actually, technically it was $11,770 because the dealer mailed me a $270 check a month later. Apparently the incentive had gone up and they couldn’t legally hang onto that difference. That’s not reflected in my original post.

Taking a look at these numbers here, does everything seem about right? Cant really tell if i'm being screwed anywhere. Also in CA. Tax rate being 8.75%

Things that caught my eye:
  • Are you planning to put $600 down for some reason?
  • Looks like they haven’t included all the fees yet, such as DMV, EFF, etc. They would have to add that later. You can get a ballpark of those from my numbers.
Those two things are artificially reducing the adjusted cap cost in your quote so keep that in mind when trying to compare to other people’s numbers.

They told me the $600 down is going to be my first months payment. The rest of the following months it would be the $647. I also thought it was a little strange.

I believe the $530 amount is DMV fees if I’m not mistaken. But yeah something about the first monthly payment or tax on cap cost reduction is confusing me.

Ah I see. My mistake then. In general I think the dealer is likely not screwing you over and auto lease programs are highly regulated by consumer protection laws. If you’re happy with the the “negotiated price” before the lease incentives, and don’t see any unexpected fees or add-ons, then it’s highly unlikely you’ll get screwed over by any mechanisms after that. It will just change how much cash you put down vs how much you pay KMF at buyout time (but the total will be the same either way).

If you want, tell the dealer you want to pay $0 cash at signing (that’s what I did) to make it easier to compare. It doesn’t really matter though.

I think you're I don't really see anything unnecessary added on anywhere. I think this is just how the numbers worked out after the Cap Cost Reduction Tax. Just sucks its so high but it makes sense the tax is owed for the Original Price.

Hey thanks again for your advice and time!

Please check the other thread I replied there before seeing this

Going in today. Does anyone know if stock car alarm is included? I remember I the past when I was with someone who purchased a Kia they always said the car alarm was $500 and actually had to remove it when we didn’t want to pay. I feel like this should definitely not happen with a GT2 right?

@nadal43 I am in bay area, CA and looking to buy. I am trying to learn from your experience. Did you buy the Stinger? Can you summarize final results versus the offer? Thanks.
