Looking for opinions, wider tires??

After only a little more than 13,000 miles on my GT1 RWD (19" rims), I'm needing new rear tires

What do you think, should I stick with OEM size or get wider tires? How about taller tires?

If you think wider would look better, what size would you recommend?

As long as the OD remains c. the same, and a wider tire is not outside the recommended range for the OE wheels, you should be okay. Messing with larger OD is asking for a fubar.

Changing the diameter makes no difference on a RWD car other than throwing the speedometer off a bit.

265's are about as wide as I'd go on stock rear wheels.

Reading all 40+ pages on another message it seems 275/35 is a popular choice of rear tire for 19" rims (but maybe not stock rims) and stock heights. Do you think there will be a problem with this tire size on stock rims, or is it something else?

As @Hockster says about max. width on OE wheels, this chart is a good guide.

Width of the wheel determines the min and max width of tires. People running 275's probably have aftermarket wheels. With an AWD car you want the front and rear to be as close in diameter as possible, that dictates a lot of size options.

Now you're getting hassled. The standard table that @Stinger GT SS posted says that our OE 255 rear tires are the max width on an 8.5 wide rim.

No. The OE 19" rear rim is 8.5"; front is 8".

correct , it's strange how tires are measured , the width is metric . the sidewall is a % of the width and the wheel size is imperial ................go figure

This is dependant on the actual tire dimensions as installed. I’ve seen a variance between tires in width and height between manufacturers, series, and intended use.

I currently have 245/40R19 in front, and 275/35R19 in the rear, on STOCK aluminum wheels, with 5mm spacers on all corners.

The tires fit perfectly, like this was the size Kia should have gone with from the factory. The 5mm spacers were not needed, but I felt they pushed the wheels out enough to look better than they did stock on the Stinger GT2 AWD.

This is a Kumho WP72 Wintercraft tire set, which will fit different than other brands or lines within the same brand. You’ll need to do a little homework on you end to see what fits, looks right, and handles as you’d expect.

I want to go to the Continental Extreme Contact dws06 p 265, but in 19" tires they don't seem to make a 265...

So it's either 255 or 275.

I thought I was stuck on 255, based on chart above. Now I'm confused. Would go with the 275 if it would be safe??

I have a 275/35R19 on the stock rear wheels.
275 is fine. In fact, it looks better and is probably what should have been the stock size.
I know that some folks go into panic mode if the charts don’t say it as gospel.

Any pics Snow? I'm super interested in how this looks, currently on 255/35R19's which i believe is stock rear setup. Any change to fronts?

The fronts are 245/40R19 on stock wheels with 5mm spacers.

I’m sorry for the delay....... the website didn’t update me on your post.

The winter tires have been really amazing. I’m a Kumho fan (and Hakook, Pirelli, BF Goodrich, General and a few others), but these have really been exceptional.

I’ll be honest; as far as “winter tires” go, these have been the best winter tires I’ve had outside of studded winter tires on my diesel 4X4 2500 plow truck.

In relation to sizing - I stand by what I said about sizing, this IS definitely the sizing the manufacturer should have gone with from the factory. They handle very well and fit the wheel well and wheels far better than the undersized and slightly stretched factory tires.
