Im not sure if there is a thread on this yet but i just wanted to know if anyone knew the difference between the lap3 uncle chip and lap3 pro tuner. i just purchased the uncle chip, K&N intake and HKS spark plugs. I saw many lap3 pro tuner threads but not many uncle chips.

ANY MAJOR DIFFERENCE?
ANY COMPARISONS/REVIEWS?

Thanks guys!

Here's a reply to the thread you asked about the differences in.

The lap3 is a 2 channel boost controller with no CANbus or fuel control, similar to RaceChip, and many others. They work but are very limited in what they can do.

The lap3-pro is a more advanced solution similar to the JB4 with CANbus and fuel control

Here's a reply to the thread you asked about the differences in.
So basically the pro tuner is adanvaced with CANbus and can control fuel but the uncle chip is mainly for more boost?

I see the uncle chip can raise up to 75 hp on 93 octane. How much would the pro tuner increase hp on 93 octane with its more advance features?

Pro tuner dose not have stable numbers but u can probly say 60-120 ish increase but it’s more along the lines of safety. Because pro tuner reads rpm and boosts accordingly, I have it in my car and it’s super smooth. I have been told by the dealer and from past experience just increasing boost is bad it works but long term it can harm the engine (at least on my old sonata) so I would say this —- uncle chip- easy fast install cheap- good power-/pro tuner—medium install -smooth strong power-safety and reliability.———and always remember mod your car at your own risk no 2 engines are built identical.

The protuner works on a larger number of factors. I've been reading that power delivery is across a wider band of rpms and stays strong. It is truly a more advanced way to trick the car into producing more power. .. safer too. However, the cost will reflect this. Eventually I will move in this direction, but I'm satisfied with the power of the less expensive versions.

Yeah I figured it’s better since it’s so expensive. So at the moment you have the uncle chip as well?!

Using the JB4.. but i've had the uncle chip at one point. They are nearly the same, but Burger updates their baselines often, which updates the maps too.

Okay cool, I got the uncle chip at a steal price so I decided to give it a try before I save up for the lap3 pro tuner, uncle chip doesn’t require much mods besides the spark plugs and recommended oil catch cans. Thanks for the enjoy guys

Just a observation, to me, it seems like the uncle chip works better with the 2.0 and the pro tune works well with the 3.3....from what I've read anyway

Never had the JB4, only the first Lap 3 Uncle. Just installed the Lap 3 Pro Tune last week and I do love it with only two issues. You mentioned the app, which needs a serious update (metric to U.S. measurements, and basic functionality) and my engine auto stop/start does not work any more. Not complaining at all about the stop/start feature not working, because I hate it, but the dash light flashes continually.

Anyway, the performance is smooth and strong. There is a significant difference. Have yet to dyno the car, or track it, but may do so soon. The install was quite easy and straight forward, except for the crank sensor connection, which was a bitch. I am running K&N intakes, catback JunBL no downpipes, HKS m45iL plugs, and duel catch cans with check valve.

Once I get the ecu changed (tsb) ...then my lap 3 will be installed, already running the hotter plugs......car runs the same with the smaller gap so far.

So all 3 manufacturer options are external piggy back modules with intercept style harnesses? The Lap3 Uncle has 3 maps changed by disassembling and turning radial switches? The Race Chip being a digital option with on off switch and mode buttons? The JB4 controls how? JB4 uses front O2 sensor intercept "fuel" wires?
All 3 require iridium style plugs gapped between .022" and 028"? Aftermarket plug options are unreliable Denso's or mucho expensivo HKS? Any other reasonable yet reliable options for plugs?

I first had the Race Chip, which was plug and play piggyback, had one mode and a phone app. It was pretty expensive for just one mode, and with only one mode, I had no need for an app. I returned it and acquired the first Lap 3 Uncle Chip plug and play piggyback one mode no app at a much better price than Race Chip. The performance was better IMHO. Finally, I bit the bullet for the Lap 3 PROSS Pro Tune piggyback, which was expensive, but the performance was quite noticeable over the others. The app needs some work, which they are working on.

For either tune, I recommend upgrading the plugs and oil catch cans minimum. Intakes, exhaust and intercoolers are optional. BTW, I spent 3 months waiting for Tork Motorsports to tune a spare ECU for me and he couldn't make it happen. That's what I prefer and may try again once I find someone who has proven themselves with this task.

I'm using NGK (1422) ILKR8E6....cheapest I could find thru amazon.

The chip should have zero effect on ISG. It is more likely that you installed the K&N intake and that hose I discussed in my review of the intakes is the culprit. Either that, or that hose has become loose and is allowing more air in than it's supposed to.

Rocket23, are those NGK's stock temp or 1 step colder?

I believe they are a hotter plug....according to the info I recieved. They are already installed , I'm just waiting for the dealer to exchange the ecu before I run the lap 3 and then see what happens......I also read that even the stock ngk's hold up well,as long as the gap is reduced to .022-.028....not.035 where they come from the factory

K&N intakes were installed 9 months ago and all worked fine until installing the Lap3 Pro Tune. No other mods or adjustments were made when I installed the tuner and all hoses are secure.
