Wasn't sure which forum to post this in, but this looked good enough.

I just read an article from a local news outlet talking about Kia thefts being on the rise in central Ohio due to a lack of an anti-theft deterrent and the how-to video being posted on YouTube. Living in central Ohio, yeah this pisses me off. Anyone else seeing a rise in Kia thefts where you live?

Another reason the buy the Genesis G70...Genesis will shut that bitch down and send location to police via my cellphone app if it's stolen. :)

My son has a '13 Optima. I'm going to get him a club just in case. But people here are stupid enough to try to steal the only red Stinger in town

I'm of the opinion that if that were true, people would know about it and it wouldn't have sensational new value. To put it differently, in order to get attention news has to be scary, terrible, disasters, etc. As a result we have to come to the point that if something is reported in the news, the only thing you know for certain is that it isn't true, or they wouldn't be reporting it. Therefore, "...Kia thefts on the rise...", means that there are actually fewer Kia's being stolen, probably a good thing. And think about it a little, the computer in mine is so goofy and erratic, I have trouble opening the fuel door, the driver's door, the hatch, the hood, frequently. If I were going to steal a car, I would go for one that is less likely to misbehave, just when you wanted to flee the police.

The focus of the article was a woman who had 3 Kias stolen within 48 hours...one being a rental she had to replace one stolen. It also stated that of the 200 cars stolen so far this month in Columbus, 40-some were Kias, 40-some were Hyundais. Plus this is now the current thing in this area on top of catalytic converter thefts, which rears its ugly head every few years or so. It's Ohio.... it's cold, snowy, and we don't have much else to do.

Yup, almost a year ago to the day. So it's 'new' to 2022.

That's OK. I have guns, and friends that have guns...plus, I really don't want my car back if it's been stolen. I'd prefer my insurance company just total it.
True there's always other ways to handle problems and I wouldn't want mine back either. Here in minneapolis if your challenger or charger is stolen, its probably parked in the middle of the street out front of the illegal bar kept open all night.

Definitely, anyone's guess what the thieves did with the car while in their possession. Then you have to battle with insurance to get it fixed.
