• PLEASE! It is VERY important that this area is not used for the discussion of technical issues with your Stinger. This section is for posting about regional-specific things like Stinger clubs, events, local vendor or dealer recommendations, KiaStinger.com member sightings, etcetera... In other words, I do NOT want people to need to scour through several different sections to find answers about their heads up display. That's why there's a section dedicated specifically to discussions like that. THANK YOU!

I'd like to know how YOU feel the Kia Stinger GT compares with/to the Holden Commodore SS-V. I'd especially like to hear from people who've driven both cars - or in them. Or, at the very least, are knowledgable about how they both perform...

I have a 2015 Chevy SS (American version of the Redline) and the Stinger feels pretty close speed-wise. Magazine times are very close. Within a .1 0-60. Handling-wise the Stinger is not quite as sharp as the Chevy. It understeers more. However, the Stinger is nicer interior and feature-wise and quieter inside.

That Commodore sounded good eh?

Certainly did. That's a big V8 in there. :p
Yep every true blue aussie loved a commodore until they closed the factory in Australia. Only issue was everyone had one. At least with the Stinger only a few will own them.

Same in New Zealand. Holden was the 'family' down-under cult brand for decades. My parents had three Holdens including one with the old push-rod 308 V8. And with Kiwi drivers often doing well racing Commodores (and sometimes Fords) in the various Australian V8 Supercar and Touring Car formulas (including Bathurst), the V8 following has remained strong, although I see large numbers of them now sitting traded-in on used-car lots. I suspect this is due to the growing burden of petrol prices (NZ's most taxed commodity). With a new left-of-center government coalition in power, it's only time before the Green and Labour-left factions will begin putting pressure to have legislation that punishes those who would aspire to performance and luxury engine performance. Walk on ya tip-toes to reduce your carbon footprint and get ya value for money Stinger while ya can...

NZ's most taxed commodity is actually tobacco but I hear ya. This tax and spend govt. in it's desperation for more revenue will doubtless start taxing cars extra on horsepower soon same as Russia. This was tried in the 1970's by way of increased registration costs based on engine capacity but that no longer works so this is a workaround.

Thank you :), I stand corrected (having not smoked since my teens, I'd forgotten). It's hard to see how the government would gain much from taxing car HP, and my guess it would probably be done more as a galvanizer for popular support in the neo-Marxist class-war ferments of recent times. I wonder at times if compulsory aid service abroad for our Millenials, in say Venezuela or Eritrea would cure them of their sentimental fascination with fascist socialism.

I ended up purchasing a low mileage one year old Commodore SS over the Stinger a few months ago as the Stinger's price in New Zealand was a bit too much for me. Spent NZ$50,000 on the car and a further NZ$6500 (still way over $10,000 less than a new Stinger) on an OTRCAI, 3 inch full exhaust system including headers and a custom tune. I managed to keep the remainder of my warranty. It's now producing around 500HP and 680Nm at the flywheel. I did the upgrades as I knew the Stinger (which was my first choice) in it's stock form would be quicker. The car is a rocket now. I did manage to check out the Stinger and I must say the Stinger's interior is in my opinion slightly superior, with better finishes. However, the Commodore sounds amazing (if you like V8 rumbles and roars) with its interior quite good though nor quite up to the Stinger's. Overall, I'm very happy with the Commodore and (shame on me!) I don't feel like I missed out with the Stinger. Handling is superb though a heavy right foot brings on wheelspin in first and second due to all the torque if you are not careful. Muscle memory sorted that out though after the first few days. I'm very interested to see what the second generation will be like in a few years. They need to bring the price down a tad though in New Zealand.
