Kia Stinger GT vs Dodge Charger Scat Pack

Gotta admit though under those circumstances the Charger does sound sweet. But since the Stinger is my daily I am glad it is relatively quiet.

Yes. And right. It would be great to have an adjustable exhaust system...

I remember my 535 having a flap in the muffler and when you are in the higher rpm ranges, it opens up and the car produces another sound. Wouldn't mind that on the Stinger.

When I was 16, I wanted everyone to know I was coming from a mile away lol. But priorities change, and while I miss the sound of my Chevelle's 406 at full song, I sure don't miss the resonant frequency headaches from the purple hornies dumping just under my footwell lol. I hesitate to use the word maturity, but maybe my tastes have grown up a skosh in the intervening 30 years? ;)

"1/8 mile racing at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego California. Charger lost 3 back to back runs to Stinger. Consistent 8.4 times for Stinger. Best run of the night was 8.391."

This is awesome and our cars must hook up great with both AWD and RWD compared to others. I know the Scat Pack will run a 4.1-4.2sec 0-60 in perfect conditions but in real world tests the Stinger is much easy to drive fast. We seem to have the advantage against cars even faster than us more than we should. I’ve seen runs pulling on 420hp M3 and 430hp vettes. Getting the feeling we are way underrated on HP.

The Stinger GT has an extremely powerful mid-range - where most races take place anyway. It's a heavy'ish car and turbos aren't always the best for launches unless done properly - but mid-range is where the Stinger really shines. I'm not sure at what point it loses it's breath as I haven't heard anything about that yet...

Now that my break in miles are done, I can say that the 2.0 seems to run out of breath around 5k-ish... :(

That's very normal with these 2.0 engines. The 428xi I leased had the same type of displacement and BHP and I always felt it lacking at the same rpms. Off the line is where these engines are great.

Agreed. Out of the box they have nice mid-range punch, but I believe the 2.0 bore/stroke is square, yes? To me, that tells me a good intake and exhaust should allow it to breathe better up top. Now I just need the patience and discipline to sock away the $ for it lol ;)

This is actually why I didn’t want to trade my 2014 Optima for a newer one. They now tune the 2.0 for more low-mid range torque but lost almost 30hp at the top end!:( 274hp down to 245hp is a significant difference and don’t care if it’s slightly better to drive around town. Just my opinion and guess not common enough for KIA.

My thoughts on why the (3.3TT) Stinger is so strong is that the torque comes on so low thanks to how the turbos are set up. Power doesn't mean much if you need to wind it up to get decent torque, and against any similarly-power but normally-aspirated engine, I would expect it to shine. The launch already has your RPM's up in the "very strong" range, and the 8=speed transmission keeps it there.

It's called wiser and I don't mean bud

I've seen that Stinger around the interwebs. If I remember correctly he ain't stock, which would explain how badly he won those races.

I still can't get over the fact that Dodge basically named their car Charger Poop Edition

Just saw in one of the comments he mentions the Stinger has A LAP3, JunBL exhaust, and methanol injection.

Yeah tend to agree car seems quicker than it should be! As fast as my 650i xdrive for sure and that is 440 hp 445 ft lbs of torque! Granted stinger is 800 lbs lighter!

If you drive your stinger in custom mode you can make adjustments to the exhaust note. You also have the ability to adjust a number of other features like the ride quality, transmission shifts.
