I have a bent inner tie rod on my Kia stinger gt rack-and pinion but the dealership don’t seem to sell the inner tie rod!!!!??? Why!!?? I don’t know . Anybody know if another Kia or Hyundai model inner tie rod fit the Kia Stinger gt awd? Please help!

Just as an FYI incase anyone runs into this issue.
I looked around and no dealership right now is able to sell this as a single part for some reason.

I ended using another tie rod part number EV80782 from O’reilies and cut it down to the correct length and used a M16x1.5 die to extend the threads down the rod. Going to get an inspection, new tires and an alignment in the morning. Pictures attached to show the adventure.

Wow what a bend, how did you figure out that was the issue?

Went to go adjust my alignment to make it good enough to get down the road and it wouldn’t turn like normal. Pulled the boot off and the problem showed itself.

For context the car was salvage and was in a side collision.

Look for g70 parts? G80 should be the same too... not 100% do research plz

Yep I looked up G70 parts since essentially it’s the same car as a stinger. However found the same issue with the dealer not selling the inner tie rod.

After the inspection and alignment, how was the ride? Did the replacement rod from Oreillys do the trick after you modified it?

Yep it worked great. Turns out my entire front left knee suspension assembly needed to be replaced aswell. But she rides just fine now. The modified tie rod works great.

Awesome! Thanks for the response, and glad it worked out for you!

I know this is a pretty old post but I was wondering if you had any difficult removing the inner tie-rod, I slid into the curb in my G70 recently during some rain and bent mine pretty good. Was going to pull it off to take measurements of the threads on the side that mates to the rack to see if there are any Kia/Hyundai OEM parts that are a direct replacement but trying to get the tie rod off seems to be almost impossible, I've had to stand on/kick the wrench to get it budge a 1/4 turn at a time and it doesnt seem to be breaking loose and instead turning something inside the rack and might have to replace the whole system. Just hoping maybe I'm retarded and am missing something.

Depends on where your holding the tie rod.

Without man-splaining do you use 2 wrenches?

I use 2 when working on tie rods

I just woke up also so forgive me if im derping

Hey OP. How difficult was this adventure? I hit a curb today and it seems like my inner might be bent because the outer looks fine but the whole thing lifts when twisted so it might be bent inside the boot where it's not visible. I'd rather do this than pay $3K for a new steering rack. No thanks Kia. How's your fix holding up?

Followup. Found the part you used on O'Reilly, but there's two versions. Was it the Master Pro for $28 or the Precision for $40 that you used?

I honestly couldn’t tell you which part I got other than the part number I listed. My fix is holding up great. No issues thus far and it’s been what a year and a half at this point? I definitely don’t regret it one bit but prepare the spend the better part of 4 hours fine tuning the length of the shaft and breaking your arm trying to die the darn thing. Lots of cutting oil/wd40 and it’ll work. Still can’t believe Hyundai/Kia/Genesis don’t make an outer tie rod for the g70/ stinger.

No worries. I'll probably grab the more expensive one just to be safe, especially if this is going to save me money overall. That's awesome to hear. I seriously can't believe they don't sell the rod when it is in fact replaceable, like every other car. I'd get it if it was built in and couldn't actually be replaced, but Wtf.

I'm assuming you just measured and cut the end off using a cutting wheel of some sort? I've got a dremel, not sure how hard this metal is. I've got a tap and die kit and oil so good to go there.

Other question, I'm going to see if the shop it's at right now will install this piece if I supply it. If they won't and I can't find anyone who will, do you remember the process to replace it? Never swapped one of these before and don't want to damage the boot or anything.

Thank you so much for the reply! If this saves me $$$ I owe you a beer or something.

The shop may put it on but just not warranty the work since it’s a custom part.

If you have to do it at home taking the inner tie rod off yourself is definitely doable, just going to need the typical deep 6 point socket or wrench to remove the outer tie rod end. There’s also a special tool you can rent (any automotive store) to removal the inner tie rod.

Once you get the outer rod end off you can break the clips holding the boot on and slide it off before using the special tool to break the bad inner rod free.

Idk how you’re going to measure for length without having the bad part in hand for reference. Maybe eyeball it with my pictures?

Also, important note, before you cut it to the correct length with a grinder (drimmel, may not be enough) have the die already threaded lower on to the shaft. The grinder will mar the threads on the tip so having the die already in place makes recutting the tip threads a breeze.

You got this.

I'm fine with them not covering it. I think that's a worthwhile risk if there's reasonable evidence it'll be fine.

Someone else on here posted a thread about 6 months back with the same issue and what he did. I guess he didn't want to revive yours, but you can find it auth a Google search. He said it had thread locker so he had to heat it a lot to get it off. Did you have to do that? He also found one that worked from a 2015 Sonata I think, it was just longer and threads ended earlier just like yours, but he said he got it on by adjusting it all the way down on the outer rod. So very little room for alignment adjustments.

Yeah good point on the length comment. I mean it seems like you just need to take 2ish inches maybe off? Doesn't need to be an exact length fit because it's adjustable with the outer by those threads.

Thanks for the tip! I would not have thought of that and been really annoyed. I may see if the shop can try the Sonata one, if it doesn't work, I know I can modify that one same as yours.

I recently got into contact with moog suspension and the wholesale account manager reached out to me and said if enough stinger owner who are having this problem fill out this form they can start moving forward with getting the inner tie rods for the stinger in production or any other part we need in production

Go to moog suspension website and suggest a part and they will reach out to you

Was the thread the same on the joint as it was on the shaft M16x1.5
