I'm having an issue with the auto engine stop. It stopped working. When I come to a traffic light the car comes to a stop the A light on the dash comes on meaning the engine should stop but it doesn't. Any suggestions ?

Press harder on brakes? I also noticed if you crawl forward a bit it doesn't engage again until later when you exceed x mph (probably per manual)

I tried both press hard on the breaks and go faster when driving. Neither worked.

there are a number of variables that will keep it from turning off - off the top of my head, HVAC fan speed, is one of them, and I think engine temp, and battery charge... double check the OM

Known "issue", much talked about on here. ISG is "balky" because only a fully charged battery will allow it to work. Even when it does work, if you are stationary for more than half a minute (more or less) the engine will come back on in any but the most favorable circumstances; if your AC is ON, that will hasten the engine turning back on. Etc.

yeah there are a few factors that determine if it will shut off or not. The "A" light is basically saying, "I'm not shutting off, but I recognize that you're stopped". Its not an error light, more of an FYI.

I'm sure there's a page in the manual that explains this, but I've also noticed it won't turn on until my engine has warmed up to a certain point. There may be other factors that are involved with it turning on the first time, like the battery charge, but this is the easiest one to keep track of.

Can anyone explain what the indicator means when it glows yellow/orange instead of green?

The ADS feature most commonly comes on and keeps the ISG from engaging in the winter. That might help you figure it out if you turn that off to rule out things that require the engine running to work...

Yellow means the conditions are not met for ISG to engage, that's all.

Yellow means the conditions are not met for ISG (Idle Stop and Go) to engage, that's all.
Thank you. That's what I was thinking, but it's nice to have some confirmation.

From the OM - ISG will work under the following

The driver’s seatbelt is fastened
The driver’s door and hood are closed
The brake vacuum pressure is adequate
The battery sensor is activated and the battery is sufficiently charged
Outside temperature is not too low or too high
The vehicle is driven over a constant speed and stops
The climate control system satisfies the conditions
The vehicle is sufficiently warmed up
The incline is gradual
The steering wheel is turned less than 180 degrees and then the vehicle stops

So quite a few reasons for it not stop the engine

Happened to me for about 2 months.
Dealer diagnosed as working perfectly.
I have a dashcam running, so I attached a battery trickle charger. It worked. My next drive with a full battery and conditions as described above, the ISG engaged.
So, now and then, I hook up the battery tender- just to make sure I have a full enough battery.

I have a dash cam I bet thats the problem.

Idle stop and go. One of the most useless creations in modern cars. Sorry, just had shoulder surgery so I’m a bit grumpy.

Per KGIS, the battery itself has to be between 2 and 55 degrees C for the ISG to engage - not the ambient temperature.

If the car has been sitting in freezing temperatures overnight, you've got a very cold battery that is not going to warm up for a long time (i.e. no ISG) - even if the car interior temperature and the outside temperatures rise to warmer temps after starting out.

My ISG works great in the warmer months (after replacing a defective battery), but when the average temp is below freezing, it's gone. We had a Chinook (warm spell) blow in for a couple of days recently, and the ISG started working fine again after the battery finally had a chance to warm up, then stopped when the cold returned.

Was happening to me.... dealer finally gave me a brand new battery and it works well now.

My suggestion would be to Thank God!

Hi Guys,

It turned out to be the battery. My Black Vue camera drains the battery at night and that's what was causing the problem.

I don’t have a problem with ISG. It’s nice when sitting at a light for 5 minutes getting “0” miles per gal. I guess I’m not in as much of a hurry to get off the line as some. The old systems shut off the A/C or heat and that was a pain but now everything stays powered. I keep the Stinger on a slow charge in the garage as I don’t use the car everyday. My $.02 worth.
