The shop said they would order and replace the piece. From what I read it comes as the whole door panel.Somebody's damned ring, I bet. Incompetents and fools working for us, all around us, everywhere.
That is a satin aluminum finish I believe. So we can't just try and wet sand it out. The only thing I can think of to make it less noticable is to rub directly across the scratch to push the edges down, maybe even with a thumbnail. Then go over it with wax, several layers, to fill it in. But I am not a detail guy and if that doesn't work (I don't see how it could make it worse), I'd be afraid of trying anything else. Hopefully this post will bump this up and a car detail guy/gal will offer the professional approach. (The last thing we want to hear is "you're cooked", and have to replace the handle cover.)
Holy, crap! Good of them to accept responsibility. But that panel has got to cost a lot. My undercarriage panels, both front ones, cost $553! And those are just simple pressed cardboard with weather coating. A door panel is a lot more material. The prices on parts for the Stinger has me expecting a single door panel will cost well over a thousand. The shop said they would order and replace the piece. hmmm I think it's actually plastic, but I'm not sure.Yep got something similar when I had the tinting done, more of a gouge really at top of handle. That aluminium is super soft. Don’t touch it you will only make it worse.
what did you do about it?Yep got something similar when I had the tinting done, more of a gouge really at top of handle. That aluminium is super soft. Don’t touch it you will only make it worse.
It was so small i left it alone as I got the tinting so cheap. Its a small nick about 2mm long at top of handle. NOt worth the headache.W
what did you do about it?
In Canada you can talk to icbc and they will contact shop and use there insurance to pay for the damage.Man this type of crap from the dealership service is the biggest reason I am so anxious about taking my car in. This specific dealership I bring up has damaged my previous Optima and I am VERY fearful of taking my car in.
Not to hijack this thread, but in hopes that perhaps others can prepare to avoid damages to the car, what are some ways to prevent dealerships from damaging and/or if a damage has occurred, to ensure they are responsible?
