My car just shut down while ISG was not disengaged. Once it shut down, the dash emitted a loud beep and instructed me to start the car manually, that Start/Stop was not functioning correctly. The amber A is constantly blinking now. I've tried restarting the car normally but the issue returns

Anyone else?138288.webp

Bumped.

Anyone else have this issue?

Try disconnecting your battery in the trunk for a few minutes. Then see if that works. If not, it sounds like a trip to the dealership.

***UPDATE***

Took it to the dealership. First visit they could not duplicate the problem or register any error codes. Today, no error lights, but it felt like I was neutral-dropping the transmission every time the engine restarted.

Long story short, today they were able to replicate the problem and register an error code related to the electric oil pump that feeds the transmission. There aren't many cases of this yet, apparently, so they're going to research it on their end and have me come back to repair/replace/reprogram as necessary.

The service tech was guessing that the pump may be necessary to maintain fluid pressure in the transmission when the engine is offline and perhaps it's failing/offline which is causing the huge jerk/bang when the engine restarts. I'll be keeping ISG off for now until this gets resolved.

Did replacing the oil pump resolve the issue?

I was on a road trip December 20th and all of a sudden, the car began shifting into neutral by itself. I would shift back to drive, and when I would accelerate, the car would rev to about 5,000 rpm and then violently shift into next gear, jerking the car badly. I exited the highway and came to a stoplight. Once I stopped, I got the same start/stop warning as you, even though I didn't have it engaged, and the car shutoff. I restarted the car and got an oil warning light, check engine light, and a key not recognized light. I managed to idle off the road and let the car cool down for about 20 minutes. I restarted the car and the warning lights were gone, so I attempted to drive the car and got the overboost/violent shift again into 2nd gear, so I turned it off and called for a tow to the nearest KIA dealership. After having it a week, they said it needs a new transmission (at 8,000 miles?!?!). It's been almost 3 weeks now with no car and now I'm wondering if it was the transmission or oil pump as your dealership is claiming. I've reached out to KIA North America and they're supposed to call me this week about it.

@Brlong23 no resolution yet due to the dealership availability and the holidays. They were supposed to look at this just after the New Year but their scheduler apparently screwed up. I'm taking it in again next Monday and will report back once I hear something.

Your issue may not be related, but who knows. I was not having gear engagement issues, although I frequently can feel what can only be described as slippage on upshifts (some here say that's common/normal for these cars, but my personal jury is out on that one).

this happened to me, only once in about 6 months. Car seemed to start right away and have no issue then or sense

Take it in immediately and inform them of the issue. Even if they can get a log of the Code, insist that they dig deeper.

**UPDATE** 01/18/2020

The Stinger has been at the dealership for over a week. They contacted Kia NA and were advised to replace the transmission oil pump.

That did not resolve the issue.

Kia NA instructed them to then replace an inverter assembly and we're waiting on that part to arrive and be installed on Monday.

Stay tuned....

Just seeing this thread. I had something similar happen but I didn't note the same message. Mine simply shut down while stuck in heavy stop-and-go traffic for a long while, using the sccs feature.

SCCS&G - serious concern

No issues since. No codes.

wow.. Looking forward to final update and hopefully good news for you. and for us to be aware of.

***UPDATE 01/23/2020***

Got my car back last night. Issue has been resolved.

The latest item to have been replaced was an inverter assembly. So, in all, two items were replaced: electric pump assembly and inverter assembly.

So far, the ISG feature seems to respond as designed.

What a difference getting my car back makes, lol. Night and day between the Stinger and an Altima.

Glad to hear that you got your issues fixed. I definitely agree with you on your last statement regarding getting your car back. I brought mine in last Fall for some hail damage repairs and was given a 2010 Chevy Impala. Despite it being new-ish, the car was a piece of junk with all kinds of issues. After I got to work, I called the repair shop and begged them to finish the work by the end of the day because I didn't want to drive a piece of poo rental.

mine just seems to work stupidly. doesn't shut off many times and then it shuts off just as I stopped and before i can put in reverse, and very inconsistent... I plan to get used to just turn it off everyday, but since I'm doing car reviews now and will be doing a very detailed one on the Stinger, I want to be able to report on it, thus, i'm using/testing it now.

I hate it !

Thanks for sharing this. I now noticed it only happens when it cuts off and I press the button to turn it back on. The startup violently puts the car in gear.

2019 GT. I usually always turn off the start/stop "feature." Not a fan. What I get is when I press the button it does not always engage and if it does, I don't get the light on the dash. Sometimes when I re-start the car, it shows as engaged. Then the light goes off and I must hit the button again. Any ideas???
