Is it normal to have a small ghost image of the HUD just above the the regular image? It seems some lights make it worse than others, but it is always present. I've tried adjusting the HUD brightness, height and rotation without luck. I searched the forum but couldn't find any other posts about it.

It is still readable, but nowhere near as crisp as our other car.

This is with no glasses/sunglasses on, so its not a polarization issue.

Do you still have the original windshield on the car?

Yes, I've only had the car a month. Maybe I need to check with the dealer and make sure it wasn't replaced while they had it.

That would be my first guess. From the service manual:
"Windshield glass exclusive for Head Up Display is built in with double image removal film"
"When replacing front windshield glass, always replace with exclusive windshield glass for Head Up Display. Otherwise, the Head Up Display images may overlap"

No need to check with the dealer. You can check on the bottom right (IIRC) if you see the Kia logo then it is the factory windshield. But I highly doubt that is your problem as the car is very new.

Also check on the HUD it self for some plastic that could have been left from the assembly factory, lots of owners keep finding them in different parts of the car, even after months of ownership.

Yes, I will definitely check for the logo in the corner. Just yesterday I found another piece of plastic to peel off, so that is a good idea as well. Thanks.

It can still be a KIA windshield, but not the correct one. When I had my glass shop check with their distributor, they had at least three part numbers listed. Damage sometimes happens in transportation or while on the dealer lot, requiring a premature change - or there is even a possibility that the factory installed the wrong one.

Definitely worth checking to make sure it's the correct glass. My HUD graphics are razor sharp, with no ghosting.

I'll check this afternoon and see if there is a part number or anything I can get off of the windshield. Maybe I just need to take a trip to the dealer this weekend and double check it with them. I would certainly not say mine is razor sharp, especially compared to our three year old Mazda. Thanks.

Here's a picture of the markings on a fully optioned HUD windshield from a Canadian car - courtesy of member @Zotto.

Perfect, I'd read that thread a while back but forgotten that there was a picture. I'll especially be on the lookout for that little HUD logo at the very bottom.

My windshield markings match that Zotto's exactly. No sign of a film on the HUD either, I guess I'll take it by the dealer and see what they say.

Take a look at another car with a HUD at the dealer's as well - if you say yours is not in focus.

I was thinking the same thing. I will do that and keep trying to adjust the settings a little at a time to see if that helps.

I spent some time driving my wife's car around today for the first time in a while (I don't drive it much anymore now that I have the Stinger), while it is more crisp, in certain lighting is has the exact same ghosting. One thing I didn't consider is that I had LASIK a few years ago, it could be related to that and the halo effect it sometime causes.

We will see next time I'm at the dealer, but it may just be my eyes sadly.

Has your wife driven the stinger? Does she see the same halo?

She has only driven it once... parked it under some trees and brought it back to me totally white with bird crap. :(

She may drive it some this week so I'll have her see what she thinks, I hadn't thought of that.
