How to Drive with the Hatch / Liftgate Open?

With the Stinger front passenger seat all the way forward and the back seat down, you can put something 7-ft long in the car. But to transport something longer you need leave the hatch open but tied down so it doesn't flop up and down as you drive. It also servers to block the object from sliding out! The u-bolt in the trunk is one attachment point, but I don't see any tie-down point on the hatch lid. A YouTube video says to manually close the latch on the hatch lid and connect the rope / bungee there. You can search YouTube for "Trunk Tie Down Hack" as the system won't let me post links here.

Would you feel this is secure on the Stinger?

After reading about hatch lid rattles, I swore I would never drive with my hatch unlatched, even if it is bungy corded down.

I don't like that method at all....


When I put my bike in the trunk of my coupe, i put one end of the cord through the solid bottom latch, wrap the cord under and over the trunk lid (front to back, between the hinges) and latch back onto the same point.

My first post

Just wanted to add to this as I envisioned/planned my Stinger to replace my small SUV and sports coupe and looking at ways to haul more cargo "if needed".

I almost see these big hatch doors on these cars almost like a truck (or el camino heh) when open as there is a large space open above the cargo area to hold larger objects. So I was also wondering the best way to keep the hatch open while carrying larger/longer cargo. I've done this many times on my other vehicles, my 3000GT has a similar hatch size but much less space. Difference is I have the top GT2 with the power hatch and not sure if it likes bobbing up and down if the hatch is not tied down super tight. Seems somewhat sturdy when the powered hatch is manually stopped with the button, but not sure if its a good idea to drive like that, I'm sure everyone would probably advise against it but still curious

For kicks I'll post what I've been able to haul with my little 3000GT, this is two large wardrobes from Ikea... I have since learned to tie much better knots btw
