I am now an old guy (75+) who just likes the looks of the Stinger, have plans for a long long road trip. My 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 6, a great EV, is not suitable for long road trips because of infrastructure and range drop (from 350+ at 55 or less to 200 at 80 mph).

I see 2018 GT2 with under 40k miles for $28-$30k, a 2022 GT2 with similar mileage for $37-40.

Since I don’t race or do mods, just need a reliable, good looking and comfortable car for long distance cruising, how big are the exterior changes and interior comforts and is it worth it to pay $5-6k more for a 2022 or later with similar mileage?

Save the money and get the older car. The interior appointments have not changed, and the exterior changes are basically cosmetic not functional upgrades of any kind. The Stinger is a great road trip car in every way, across all trims and model years.

Just noting that this topic has been moved out of the community lounge and into the main Stinger forum.

only significant change on the exterior of the newer cars is the rear tailights. the rest is minor (wheel pattern, badging.)

the only big difference in the interior is the larger screen on the 2022s. (and a little more stitching in the seats, more mood lighting, etc). the screen on the 22+ cars is the same as what you have in the ioniq for the center screen. (gauges are still mechanical, though, on all years.)

is it a big difference? no. i'm in a '19 and happy enough to not switch. (especially with interest rates these days.) but if you're going to buy and keep for a long time, you should start with the newer car, even with similar mileage. It should hold up better since it hasn't been exposed to the elements as long.

Ultimately a question of preference and specific deals, but as far as aesthetic differences go, the 2022+ models have a new design for the rear bumper/diffuser, including bigger (and by personal opinion much better looking) exhaust “exits”, slightly altered badging, and the redone tail lights. On the technical side, the new GT2 also comes with active valves so you have the option of a quieter or more sporty exhaust note, though personally the difference is much more noticeable if you have at least a non-stock cat back system.

There are other differences as pointed out by others already, but these alone were enough for me to only look for 2022+ models as I prefer the looks and wanted the additional tech and features, especially for long term.

The differences are somewhat minor. The ‘18 model is the only one with no heated rear seats(I have this one), you will also get the 360º camera view with the newer model, along with the larger display.

There's a lot of electronics in the GT2. I splurged for the extended warranty because I bought my used 2018 when the original warranty was about to run out. I plan to keep it for as long as I can. It's a great car!

i went with a '22 almost for the larger screen size alone. i came from an Infiniti Q60 RS with a giant aftermarket "Tesla screen" which was awesome. even the '22+ screen could be bigger, IMHO. 360 camera is a good add, too. the Stinger doesn't have horrible rear visibility, but its not great, either.

i actually kinda prefer the older style tail lights, but not that big of a deal.

I went from a 21 gt1 yo a 23 gt2 so i can share things i noticed.

The larger sceen and 360 camera specially with those curb cameras are incredible and a huge reason I wanted a 23 besides also wanting AWD. The gt2 seats and interior mood lights are also a real plus. Also electronic liftgate is handy as well + remote start that i think the gt2s come with. My 21 gt1 didn't have remote start.

The taillights both old and new look gorgeous to me. I also noticed overall better panel gaps and sound insulation in my 23 compared to the 21. I also like that electronic shifter quiet a lot. My 21 had sometimes a really terrible sounding tranny clunk it would do going from reverse to drive or put in park regardless of cold or warm tranny temps. Like sounded and felt terrible like it would break apart.

Also the 22+ have valved exhaust so that's a fun plus factor. I kept my 21 completely stock and since i am keeping my 23 for long term I've been modding it after about 2-3 months of owning it. Been absolutely loving my 23 gt2 and stare at it everytime I walk away!

So yeah it depends on your budget. Also the newer 22 models have the refinements to the engine and some other minor things so that's worth something too. My 23 did not need to do the turbo oil feedline recall. I am sure you can get a better deal on used stingers if you can wait for interest rates to come down a bit more hopefully next year. If I was in your shoes I'd go for the 22+ models.

If you are only buying the car for looks then the differences are minimal BUT, if you are comparing the features, they are massively different, and the $10K difference easily pays for the additional features of the later model.

Comparing the two spec sheets these are the additions to the MY22 Model over the MY18 model.

This is comparison of top spec of both models.

You would also have the addition of factory warranty still applicable to the MY 22 model.

MY18 vs MY22

272kW vs 274kW (active exhaust is responsible for the increase in kW)

newer models don't have the overhead sunglasses compartment. deal breaker for me personally....

Also removed the AUX port
And the G-force meter and lap timers
And the exclusive detonator-style fob

But the sunglasses compartment is the most missed. I bought a pre-facelift sunroof console but want to rig the SOS buttons in somehow. A 3d printing project for winter.

Someone on the forum had their sunglasses melt or deform in the compartment during the summer heat
I remember that. Aren't they from the Las Vegas / Phoenix part of the country?

the MY22 GT and MY23 GT models all had overhead sunglass compartment.
The missing compartment might be a GT2 thing where they replaced it with these two completely useless buttons.

They didn't sell GT1 and GT2 in Australia.

It was just GT and it was full spec.

The lower spec was 330S.
