My car was hit in a car park last week. The lady who did it was honest enough to leave a note with her phone number and has agreed to pay for the damage. The paint was damaged on the front bumper below the headlight. I brought the car to my local car paint repair guy - he has done good work for me before. However, this time he is finding it impossible to match up the paint. He has tried twice now and it's still not 100% right. Is there something about this colour that make it so difficult to match up?

Yes. The metallic in these colors messes with repairs. You can see this in trying to use the touchup kits; no matter how carefully you apply, sand and reapply, it doesn't match "seamlessly". That's because, I assume, the original paint is laid on in a single broad spray, and any repair will show unless the entire body part is repainted. Then, you have to match that part with the rest of the car. And that, my friend, is actually impossible to DO (although you can get lucky). Later, the paint will change on the plastic parts compared to the metal surfaces; one will go lighter or darker because the paint does not age the same way on the base material. It is a common problem since cars were forced to adopt plastic bumpers, and other parts have been changed to plastic to save weight and cost, etc.

Good luck getting a good enough effect. "Nothing in life has any business being perfect." So, perfect satisfaction is impossible; because even if attained, it is fleeting: time alters all things. :)

HiChroma Red consists of primer, base color, top color, and clear coat. I know that’s over generalizing the process, but in a nutshell that’s what it is. My Stinger was in shop to correct Kia paint issues on the bumper guard and hood twice for a total of 40 days. The color is shades darker than the rest of the car, clearly obvious with how the parking sensors look much lighter than the paint that was applied. Good luck!

My prestige repairer who only does 3 makes of car being BMW, Merc and Porsche took one look at the paint computer diagnostic and said no way to bring it ever to them if I ever smash it....Hichroma Red.

Did he paint the entire bumper and fade it into the fenders? Or did he try to paint only the affected area?

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
Only the affected area.

You'll want to have him spray the entire bumper. He might then have to blend that into the fenders so the difference between the bumper/fender isn't obvious.

I've had my car in twice now for two separate rear end accidents (I really need to take those magnets out of the trunk). I've taken it to a "luxury repair" shop that is Audi/Bentlly/VW certified, but usually has a Porsche or Lexus hanging around, too. It may sound like overkill for a KIA, but I love this car and they're pre-approved by my insurance. Anyway, they've done a fantastic job matching the color each time, but always mention how challenging the paint process is for the car. I guess I just got lucky and found a good paint shop.
