Does anyone know anything about a legal settlement regarding our cars over an HECU malfunction resulting in a fire under the hood. I got a postcard indicating there is a class action suit that I may be entitled to participate in, although there has been no recall that I am aware of nor problems as outlined in the postcard. Any clarification would be greatly appreciated.

There is a recall, the latest version of the recall adds a higher (lower?) amp fuse to the fuse box (I've done this myself on my Stinger). There's a few threads about it. This was referred to as an 'engine fire' issue not an ABS issue, but it's the ABS malfunctioning/fuse issue that causes the fire under the hood.

I also got this card yesterday and submitted my recall instructions and receipt for the fuse upgrade, thinking having to do this myself due to the dealer not even being able to get the part / schedule the recall for me qualifies. I'll let the lawyers figure it out.

I took my Stinger in last week for an oil change. The dealer did a recall on my car and this was what it was.

It is a little surprising I have not gotten notice of the recall yet.
You may have not received the notification (usps loses mail, it's a thing). If you perform a lookup with your car's VIN and it's showing the recall, then you're eligible/should get the recall done.

Just received the settlement postcard this past weekend. So we just need to refer to this when taking the car to the dealership to have them perform the fix?

the fire thing is the reason i got rid of my first stinger. i got the postcard too since i was leasing one during that time period. i never paid for repairs or had any done, so i dont think id get anything out of the lawsuit. when i was told to park the car and not drive it or park by buildings because of the fire hazard, i immediately went to turn it in on a newer stinger.

I am still confused that Kia has sent me nothing about the recall, but has sent me other stuff.
What year is your car? The 2022+ comes from the factory with the new downgraded fuse installed so wouldn't be eligible for the recall.

Your car should be impacted. You can verify it here:

Then contact your dealer and they're obligated to correct it for you. The new "fix" is very simple, they just swap your existing multi-fuse for a new one. 5 minute job. Dealers though tend to mess with you and will ask to see your car first to "verify" it needs the part, then they order it and then they book you in to change it. So it'll take WAY longer than it should so prepare yourself for that.

Just so you're aware, the newer Stingers still have the same root-cause issue as the older ones. The "fix" doesn't address the HECU malfunction issue, it simply downgrades the fuse so if the HECU does malfunction, it in theory pops the fuse instead of starting a fire. It's a band-aid fix as a fire could still result if the HECU malfunctions, even with the new fuse in place.

I haven't heard of too many Stinger fires lately though so i'd say their band-aid fix is working so far...

My point is though, trading your car in on a newer Stinger is a bit over-kill when you can take 5 minutes and swap in the exact same fuse the new cars have. I ordered it and did it myself as I can't stand all that Dealer appointment BS I posted above.

I checked in with Kia's site, our 2022 Stinger GT1 purchased off the truck in October 2021 has no recalls associated with it. Happy to hear. So far, I like the dealership, hope it stays that way. Don

Anyone with a 2.0 engine affected by this recall? Or was it just for the 3.3?
In the EU we don't have an official website to check our VIN so we have to rely on dealers to send us the recall letters.
The dealer didn't not know anything about the recall when I asked. But then again they also did not know a bunch of other stuff so I don't know how much I should trust them.

You’re testing my memory but I’m pretty sure it only impacted the 3.3.

MY2019 received recall letter back in early 2022 about the HECU problem and booked appointment with dealer. Job was carried out in 30min and looks as if there was a new fuse box indtalled as it still had the plastic wrapping on it.

They replace the lid with a new one that has an updated fuse diagram on it. It comes in the kit with the fuse.
