Headlights defects

Been fighting with Kia America and my dealership for 6 weeks trying to get headlights replace because of headlights discoloring from the inside of lens. The car is 25 months old with 15000 miles on it. I’ve been caught in the middle. Neither dealership or Kia wants to foot the 3600.00 dollar bill. The car I thaught had a 5 year 60000 mile bumper to bumper. Minus wear and tear parts. So today they called and offered me a 50/50 split on the headlights that are suppose to be covered under warranty.what a joke offer. I guess this must be the new ways warranty’s work. On this path Kia will never be a true player in this category if this is the way they are going to treat customers that spend almost 50000 grand on a Kia. I am very disappointed in the way they have gone about situation. This is my 4th and last Kia I will ever buy.

Can you post images? Are they discolored from condensation inside the lens? Do you park outside and what state are you in?

I saw someone in another thread with similar problems. That's bullshit, man. There's nothing in the warranty booklet (just looked at it actually) that says they won't cover headlamps or something stupid. If you haven't already, call the Kia "VIP" line at 855-454-2847.

I’ve been fighting with Kia America vip and dealer. There a joke. The interior of the lens gets little specs inside and at night when lights are on there are huge hazy halos right inline with main light beam.

It’s just a matter of time before all stinger lights do this. These lights are 1400 apiece and 600 install .i believe the light beam is so intense it’s discoloring the plastic lens.

They Insulted me buy offering to pay 50 percent of bill. When car has bumper to bumper warranty Except for wear and tear items.thats like the engine blowing up and them saying it’s under warranty, but you have to pay half. That is some real horseshit.I love the car but that is the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard. I’m in Florida car stays outside. Also I was one of first to own this car in us . I special ordered it and that doesn’t mean shit. There big selling points where we are going to treating stinger owners special because of cost of this car. I mean the dealership has been good up to this point putting new trim on twice because it keeps discoloring. Had all doors and hatch repainted. No mechanical problems all paint and cheap trim pieces . I would expect maybe if car was 5 years old but 27 months with 15000 miles. Come on kia

My headlamps look similar, and I only have 3700mi. I don't think it's actually plastic crazing or heat damage (although the car did sit on the lot from June-December of last year soaking up the worst of the TX heat). What I think it might be is some plastic offgassing inside the lamp itself leaving a film on the lens.

Yup that's why I wanted to see a picture because mine are the same as well and have been pretty much since new. I'm surprised they even offered him a 50/50 split. You don't notice it until the lights are on at night.

This would be caused by out gassing of headlight components and therefor a manufacturing defect and should be handled as a recall issue because it diminishes light output and scatters light outside the designed beam pattern causing glare, and is therefore theoretically a safety hazard.

I have specks, a lot of them, that show up when the headlights are on. I also have PPF covering my headlights. So, I can't say if the imperfections originate in the PPF or inside the headlight lens itself. My attitude is that if the headlight is putting down a lot of illumination then they are working. I never expected to look through the lens and not see it because it's perfectly clear. Even if brand new, the lens has likely sat outside since the car was shipped. And if outside now, it is going to weather quicker than a garaged car will. But, sooner or later, all headlight lenses go further toward "the dark side".

I'm sorry, but your rant seems unjustified. In my humble opinion, Kia has come through again and again for you; now you're asking them to give you brand new headlights for no functional reason, only as an aesthetic (subjective) one. Your issue is shared by everyone to some degree or another, sooner or later. Don't burn your bridges, is always good advice.

Ya my rant . I have lots of friends and family with 20 25 thousand dollar Kia’s that are years older and perfectly clear still. So hit me back in a few years when there total hazed over and they offer you a 50/50 split.

I currently have 28000 km (roughly 17000 miles) on my 2018 Stinger GT Limited, and don't have that issue...yet. But I'm aware that this is something that might happen, as well as the yellowing and hazing of the surface of the headlight housing in time. But my last car, a 2016 Hyundai Elantra bought brand new, had no such issues three years in, aside from the fact that they were very poorly designed halogen and didn't light anything up on the road ahead! So, I'm so glad that my Stinger has powerful LED headlamps, and directional ones at that, which works really well!

It's very common for headlights to have this effect. I've never seen a headlight not have some degree of haze on the lens when looking directly at it.That being said, your's certainly seems worse than most.

I will look at mine, but pretty sure they are the same.

Update Kia is replacing both headlights under full warranty.so if anyone else is having issues with plastic lens .u now have hope of full repair. Thank you kia
