Having second thoughts about getting one

I have been looking at getting Gt2, a few reasons I am considering other cars

1. I am questioning if I want to spend this amount of money at the current stage of my life (more of a financial decision, I know the car is worth every penny)
2. I hope there will be fewer issues (TSB) than 2018 but there might be few as of every other car's first few model years
3. Noise insulation (corner cuts which were necessary to keep the price down)

The car I am considering is a used 2016 Hyundai Genesis
1. It will be a little bit more spacious
2. Will be value for money and cost around 25K
3. Will have remote start from app
4. Will be quieter inside
5. Won't be as much fun as Stinger but I am upgrading from 10-year-old FWD 4 cylinder car with a 4-speed transmission, so Genesis might be good enough for me

I am going to be 29, have a good income (upward of 100k) and low cost of living but I am thinking to be more financially responsible and have family in the next few years.

Basically, I am stuck between YOLO and being financially responsible(?).

Is the Genesis really more spacious? I'm in a similar boat (31 years old, etc) and would definitely consider the Stinger a 'family / responsible' car. I'm leasing mine but might buy it out.

Also wanted to add that I consider the Stinger responsible mostly because my Ducati Monster isn't. Lol

I see that your number one point in your list is financial. I agree that it’s worth every penny, but if you are not 100% thrilled with a car’s price, payment amounts, whatever, I’d say move on. Being able to afford something is one thing, but being able to feel like you are not overspending is priceless. Again, I trust it fits your budget, and if you get one, you’ll be so happy with the car, but as you enter into your 30s, do you think you’ll still feel happy paying more than you considered ideal in your late 20s? There are other great cars, Stinger is just one of them. I love my Stinger and (besides the paint issue) I am so pleased with it. But I would have been less pleased if it was a single penny over what I knew I wanted to spend.

The Genesis G80/Genesis Sedan is a great car for sure, it’s got a lot of luxury for the price. It was designed from the start to be a luxury car, competing against other luxury brands. You are making a great choice with going that direction. In addition they seem to hold their value pretty well.

KIA needs to put that sort of glass on the Stinger to enhance the quiet of the cabin. Also, more insulation from tire noise. I still love mine as is.

Don’t do anything that’s going to stress you out. If you don’t want to spend the mone on a Stinger, don’t get it. You may be able to even score a gently used G80 Sport for around $40K. 0-60 around 5 seconds, comfortable and spacious.

Yes, a little bit of more leg room, head room and some space under seats to put your feet. In the lease, you are paying half of the cars cost and very high interest. You should use it for 3-6 months on lease and then if you want to keep it at lease end then buy it out immediately than being on lease for 3 months and buying.

The stinger is more than quiet enough for me, has enough room, etc. Get what you think works best for you, but I'm surprised you're looking at a 25k car or a 50k GT2. There are lots of stinger models you can get at 35k (like the 2018 GT which has the same engine, same room inside, same sound level as the GT2 but many thousands cheaper.

THIS^^^^ BUT!! I also wanted a Genesis....rwd, v-8 same waranty...you bet I wanted one!!! However, I cam across the base stinger with all the bells nd whistles that one gets spending thousands more!! It was a no brainer for me.....In the words of Al pacino in scarface......''so ya wanna play rough huh?!'' ''ok'' Let me show you my lil friend!!!

I'm approaching 50, if I could go back in time and talk to my 29yr old self (which I was in the same financial situation as you), I would tell me to set practical aside for later and go for the fun stuff now!

Typically, nostalgic memories are the fun times you had and things you did (regardless of the consequences). Whereas regrets are the "safe bets" and practicalities that kept you from doing the more enjoyable things.

Do the fun thing now, when the family situation comes around...Well hell, the Stinger is still a 4-door hatchback man! And if you opt for the AWD, it'll be great for bad weather too! It's win-win here.

I was in a similar situation as you 3 years ago (32 now), and I also chose the "family sedan" it was a Nissan Maxima. Fine car, but I really regretted not getting something more enjoyable. Fast forward to last week and I'm now a Stinger owner, I'm so happy with the decision. This is an amazing car, the reviews aren't lying, I have never been happier with a car choice in my life.

Let's compare the two cars you're looking at. The Genesis has more room, but how big are you? I've had guys 6'3" in my car and they have plenty of space in the passenger seat, they didn't even move the seat all the way back. The back seat is fine for average height adults. The Stinger has a lot more cargo space, I mean a whole lot more. I don't really know why people are complaining about noise in the Stinger, it's quiet in my opinion, conversations between people are easily heard while on the interstate. According to c&d it comes in at 71 DBA, while the Genesis comes in at 70 DBA.

You can get a 2018 GT1 Stinger, which will probably be better equipped than most 2016 Genesis, for around 36k before tax right now. You're talking around 10-11k more than you would pay for the Genesis, but you're going to get a far better warranty with the Stinger. Also, if you're financing, there are some great financing deals floating around for the Stinger that you won't be able to get with the Genesis. What it really came down to for me was, if I buy the stinger, I'll have $xxxxx amount in discretionary income each year, is that enough? The answer for me was yes, so I bought it.

The G80 has a cavernous trunk. It's a fairly large car and the Koreans give the space to match.

The count the entire area behind the seats in the Stinger up to the ceiling, so in a sense it is. Keeping it under the covered area, I think the G80 should have more room.

Buy the car that will make you happy. If having a "YOLO" car makes you happy, but the payments won't...it's not a good move.

If you're making $100K, go buy an older E55 AMG for a "YOLO" car. They can be had for $10-15K and mine is incredibly reliable. Sub 4.5 seconds to 60, massive trunk and can . Keep the 4 banger for the commute and live cheap.

My two cents: I'm firmly in the YOLO camp. In the past twelve months, I've lost a cousin to a car wreck, a close friend to cancer, and a good coworker to an aneurysm. With each loss I was reminded again and again and again that life is SHORT.

So I say, do what makes you happy. Spend money if you have it and buy what you want, if you can comfortably afford it. In the end, it's only money and it won't go with you when your time is up.
